GA Tidbits c/o House Econ Back
Yas: U.K. Clears Pfizer Covid Vaccine for First Shots Next Week
The U.K. became the first western country to approve a Covid-19 vaccine, with its regulator clearing Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE’s shot ahead of decisions in the U.S. and European Union.

The emergency authorization clears the way for the deployment of a vaccine that Pfizer and its German partner have said is 95% effective in preventing illness. The shot will be available in Britain from next week.

Belle: Local: Red-tagging a cover-up for ‘incompetence’ – Makabayan

President Rodrigo Duterte’s red-tagging of leftist members of the House of Representatives and activist groups endangers their lives and is meant to cover up his “incompetence” in solving problems created by the pandemic and recent typhoons, the Makabayan congressional bloc said on Tuesday.

Duterte on Monday night accused Makabayan of being a front of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the New People’s Army (NPA). He also said Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate looked like “dog poop.”

Cami: UP: Recognizing the extreme challenges of remote learning in the middle of a pandemic, made worse by the recent typhoons, UP has announced additional flexible academic measures for the remainder of the first semester of AY 2020-2021. This includes the extension of the deadline for the submission of grades and a policy of no failing grades to be given to students this semester

Random: Joe Biden fractures foot after slipping while playing with dog.

American president-elect Joe Biden has fractured his right foot after slipping while playing with his dog Major.

The injury was discovered in a scan on Sunday and will likely require him to wear a boot for several weeks, his doctor said.

Biden suffered the injury on Saturday and visited an orthopedist in Newark, Delaware, on Sunday afternoon, his office said.

BRA Outreach Updates c/o BRA & Ways and Means
Yas: So far, what we’ve done is JC has reached out to the intended recipients. And we got some narratives from them that we can use for marketing. It has been very hard for us to release pubs because if we ask people to donate given recent events it might be insensitive. We were releasing pubs na rin naman last week. We’re going to release more pubs containing their narratives to appeal to more people.

Andi: When are you guys planning to cap the donations?

Yas: We’re planning muna na after the sem ends. Since na-extend ‘yong sem, na-move rin ‘yong mga finals and requirements so people are really busy now to donate pa. We want to wait muna until people are capable na of donating.

Jaro: Medyo matagal pa kasi ‘yong mga deadlines, ‘yong iba sa atin may mga exams pa talaga by December. Because of this, we can’t really attend to it agad. Right after that, rest assured, we can go to UP naman. Katulad nung nasa update ko, we’ve reached about 21K. Hopefully umangat pa ‘yong donations but ‘yon nga, like as what Yas has mentioned, we’re finding it hard to find donations kasi wala nang pumapasok from alumni and halos walang pumapasok from our constituents, which is understandable kasi baka they’re focusing on the victims of this pandemic and the recent calamities. I believe I can speak for the batch representatives in saying that even though hindi natin ma-reach ‘yong goal natin, malaki parin matutulong natin sa mga beneficiaries natin.

Jaro: Whenever binu-bump ng batch reps natin ‘yong mga pubs, maybe we can help them na mag-attract ng donations from the groupchat.

STRAW Updates c/o STRAW-Sec Councilor
Third: Okay, so to begin as you all know, we submitted a consolidated report to admin last Monday. Basically, what was on the report was a consolidated letter containing all the grievances from the ECONsult, kasi diba may part sa end na may class grievances, and Dear STRAW initiative. I arranged it so that naka-compile na per class ‘yong mga grievances. Ang problem lang na na-encounter namin was that most of the students didn’t really put kung sino prof nila kaya it’s difficult to pinpoint kung aling class specifically ‘yong mga grievances nila. But then again, I think the harms are mitigated naman kasi higher econ classes mostly have one class and one prof lang. To add to this, I also included the suggestions we have with regads to moving forward with the semester. for the information of the body, this includes course recalibrations, maximum leniency for requirements, technical training for faculty on UP ICT resources, and inculcating discussion of prereqs in higher econ courses, i.e. the kind of bridging program we discussed. Basically, all of these naman were discussed on our standmaking session. The report is with Ma’am Magno and the Dean na and they’re going to discuss it with the faculty. We’ll ask for updates na lang with regards to that.

For the information na rin of the body, recently may nag-message sa council page na OSA Coordinator of CSSP. Concern lang nila is that econ profs have exams and sessions that are not within their designated time, like synchronous exams on weekends for example. We’ll forward this to Ma’am Magno para masama na sa discussion with the faculty.

Andi: Thanks Third! I’d like to commend Third rin kasi super organized ng report if you take a looka t it in our email.

Haraya Updates c/o Senior Batch Representatives
Shin: Basically the revision lang naman is the provision of another package. The point person was able to negotiate it, so there are now 6 packages for the 6 members of the editorial board. EJ and I also discussed the deadline for forms and add-ons. We just wanted to explain that we’re doing the deadline more for efficiency purposes. We consider the batch naman capable of answering the forms. We’re going to add a deadline na lang para hindi kami maghihintay lang nang maghihintay. December 6 ‘yong deadline, Monday, for both forms.

EJ: So for the gradshoot, we’re going to have it either January 15/16 or 22/23, which are both Fridays and Saturdays. Those are the days we’re looking at for the gradshoot. This December, we’re going to create the groupchat na for the committee. Worst case scenario, matagalan pag-answer ng forms kaya we’ll have to start creating the groupchat later than planned na rin.

Shin: We’ll also be having sensing, but we’re going to be releasing it after the forms para hindi ma-bombard mga tao.

Andi: Are there any people who said yes but did not answer the forms?

Shin: Yes, we utilized all the possible channels we can use. PM or Text. We’ve also taken into account those people who have reached out regarding their issues sa connectivity and affected sila because of the recent typhoons. We’re keeping tabs on them talaga.

Andi: I tried clicking the forms kasi of the barkada package and need ng permission for it kasi baka people are trying to access it pero hindi pwede.

EJ: We’ll look into it and give permission to the batch ASAP!

Shin: Thank you for that Andi!

Andi: Thanks guys!

Lantern Parade Updates c/o Econ Rep to the USC & Media and Publicity Councilors
Mario: So, updates lang from before. Ganoon parin naman ‘yong deadline December 4. Together with M&P and cores, we’ve been working on this na. By today or tomorrow, may first draft na. I’d like to thank everyone especially sa cores natin. Nagtulungan kami para mapadali workload naming lahat.

Haqq: We would like to thank Andi and the batchreps for shooting the videos. For the animations na gusto ng admin, Sir Benny is willing to help raw if need pa ng animations sa video.

Andi: Thank you Mario and M&P!

NYC 17 Evals c/o Education and Research Councilor
Emman: I made a SWOT analysis based on the meeting na rin with the BOD last Sunday.

Strengths
  • Very good ‘yong hosting and even ‘yong adlibs. There are times na anging issue ‘uyong connectivity pero on the whole, enjoy naman ‘yong mga delegates.
  • Internally, happy ‘yong OB kung paano na-handle ng gma conveners and directors.
  • When prep started, hindi na kinailangan na mag-tap ng mga tao just to step up for the positions, so improvement raw talaga from previous years.
  • Technical issues we’re handled well. Amazing Race was really handled well.
  • Special mention na rin sa mga TLs and Facis kasi the delegates really enjoyed being with you guys.
  • Comfortable sa pag-engage and supportive of one another during the Webinar.
  • Maganda ‘yong reach ng pubs even compared to previous NYCs.

Weaknesses
  • Technical difficulties, like lagging and nagiging mahina ‘yong mic.
  • Some of the advocacy videos were taking down because of violation of community rules. Na-handle naman siya ng NYC.
  • Time management, naging issue rin kasi the SMART presentation dragged on for longer than expected. Considerable rin ‘yong amount ng extension.

Opportunities

Threats
  • Inconsistent connections, pero inherent naman talaga ‘to sa platform na ginagamit natin now.

As a whole happy ‘yong BOD kung paano hinandle and nag-turn out ‘yong NYC.

Andi: Does anyone have any comments? I hope to hear from atleast three of you.

JC: Part ako ng promotions committee and during the event itself, ‘yong mga officers na ‘di na need during the event, hindi na talaga sinama so we weren’t really sure what more to do or kung ano pa iko-contribute namin kasi parang hindi na kami kinailangan by that time.

Belle: As a TL, I’d like to point out how easy it was to get integrated into the program. Especially, with the excel file and powerpoint. I’m really thankful that we have that logistical power because it made everything easy and smooth.

May distinction lang sana sa roles na gagawin kasi for us we were asked to record the program kaso logistics was also going to record. So nagkaroon lang ng confusion kasi we tried to record lang rin pero hindi rin pala gagamitin. So sana sa susunod, clear na ‘yong distinction.

Andi: To add to those comments lang rin, I think it was nice that we had three tech runs but better sana if we actually ran through the games. Thank you Emman and congrats to the NYC OB!

Partnership Proposals c/o Ways and Means Councilor
Jaro: As of now, we have 9 active partnerships. Originally, I was supposed to send proposals pero naging busy and nagiging matumal na ‘yong likes and shares sa groupchat naming team kasi busy nga mga tao now. So I decided to stop muna because it’s okay naman na we don’t reach the maximum number of partnership proposals, which is 10. Having 9 partnerships is already good na.

Reminder na lang rin sa invite from UPSEAA sa talk on Friday. There are speakers from the Ayala group and many more. If you guys could come kasi binu-bump nang binu-bump ‘yong invite, please do so. We were invited by tita Rose and now, mga professors na rin.

Right now, we’re in the process of finding concessionaires. We have two to three na quota per member of my core under the small scale IGPs team. We’re looking at about 14-21 concessionaires. We’re looking to raise 5-10k pesos for that initiative, which is not bad na rin. Heads up lang for Kyla and Haqq, we will be posting everyday from December 7 – Decemeber 18. Ako naman ‘yong magpo-post so I’m just informing you lang. Baka we can have a schedule na for it. May limit naman na three pubs per day. I think amenable naman ‘yong Ways and Means with regards to any system na mapagkasusunduan natin, I’ll just coordinate with the project heads. Saan ang participation ng council? I would like to request sana from each core na magkaroon ng representatives for the liking and sharing of the pubs. Latest Saturday sana mayroon na. So there will be 5 from straw-sec, 5 from edres, 5 from M&P, 5 from council, and kaya na naman naming team ‘yong 10 other representatives. Rest assured naman na magkakaroon ng tracker for that.

For E-Store, nagde-deliver na naman ‘yong mga parcels pero hindi pa kasi nako-coordinate sa akin ng heads ko ‘yong income for that. So siguro atleast 1k kumita tayo for E-Store.

Andi: If may available sa talk ng UPSEAA, please go if you can. Thank you Jaro!

Other Matters
To clarify, 50%+1 ‘yong need na mag-agree right?

Andi: Yes, para majority.

Third: Yup, 50%+1 pero take into acount na rin the reasons why others do not agree with the letter baka kasi may mga valid reasons sila.

Jaro: Third, tanong ko lang. Ano na status ng 141 grievance namin?

Third: Included na siya sa report so the grievances have been brought to the attention of the dean na.
