1. GA Tidbits
- World: Spanish government rejects statement of independence as signed by Catalan Leader
- Local: Donald Trump is going to the ASEAN meet in the Philippines this November 16-17
- UP: UP wins against UST in UAAP 80 Basketball 71-69
- Random: 109 hippos dead in Namibia due to anthrax outbreak
2. Open Consultations discussion c/o everyone (10 mins)
- Je: People say we’re really relevant as a Council and one of the things we’re strong at is our relationship with the admin and the SEAC execomm.
- Iyla: The orgs say that we’re relevant and they liked our initiatives like the Grand Pakain. They appreciated that we will be bringing up the printing at the COMPLAB to be cheaper. They were suggesting a segmentation for the approaching of orgs.
- Je: The unaffed feel like they don’t get so involved or approached.
- Howie: It plays a part that all of us are part of Ecosoc.
- Jackie: I don’t think it really plays a part since Theresa and I reach out to our batchmates. We make our initiatives so people feel welcome or invited. It becomes their choice not to participate. No matter how much you try to reach out, it won’t work out if they don’t reach out themselves. The best we can do is make them feel like they can approach us especially for the batch reps.
- Howie: I see the batch reps doing their best to make themselves available and approachable and you need to meet halfway, and I think we’re doing well at that since we try to provide avenues for them to reach out. We just need to keep at it until they do.
- Ian: I think we need to re-examine our events too like whether people are still enticed to go to these events, be it in
- Josh: The juniors really liked SIklab since it was really different. OBEM (Tania) feels like this Council is more approachable. The SEAC group is also really helpful.
- Howie: I heard that the people appreciate how we makes stands since they’re very involved.
- Jolo: From OBEM, a concern was the batch directory since some students who fill in the batch directory don’t receive brigs.
- Jackie: The thing is, she should approach us about this so we know as soon as possible since it’s really simple.
- Iyla: Some say that brigs are more effective than pubs.
- Jolo: I asked OBEM regarding for example, Game Theory branding and what they were trying to say was to tap into the influential people in OBEM to talk to them. They like the free food idea more than free-flowing drinks. OBEM was also thinking of a partnering with SESC in an event like how Ecosoc has NYC and ETC has Kapekonomiya.
- Je: OBEM is into both free food and drinks since they felt enticed when it came to events with free drinks.
- Howie: ETC brought up the storage area near their tambayan since not all of the stuff there are theirs.
- Yana: OBEM is missing 8 monobloc chairs.
- Paje: I told them they can just get them from the lounge.
- Yana They said they were shy- it’d be better if we help them coordinate.
- Je: The hole in the back parking needs to be
- Angelo: The Humans of UPSE hasn’t been released and someone still wants SIDHI with a new EIC.
- Iyla: The cores want a core GA.
- Ian: I feel like we can schedule one for the sem.
- Je: They aren’t so aware of the services and the acad kit link has been dissolved in some batches. Also, orgs suggest that
- Josh: I plan to move the Dear STRAW to the SESC Bulletin Board and a suggestion box in the library.
- Jolo: People want us to capitalize on Schoolympics because there seems to be potential.
- Iyla: People appreciate how easy it is to coordinate with Bets. OBEM appreciates Josh visiting the tambayan.
- Kayla: Someone brought up that the GA Tidbits pub was too long.
- Ian: I’m still fixing the technical working group for the 4-Sem rule.
3. STATA/R Seminar Updates c/o Kayla & Louise (5 mins)
- Louise: Kayla is in charge of tokens. For attendance, we plan to post it in the pub tomorrow night. We talked to Jackie and we’ll give 15 seats to Seniors as long as Jackie hosts. JJ Flores and Francis Edrinal said okay. They’ll be providing handouts. The event is 4:30-6pm in SE 125 and 127.
- Louise: The pub will be released this week then kindly repub.
- Louise: For BRA Outreach, we talked to Josh and he suggested a rehabilitation center, so it will be a STRAW x BRA Outreach on November 11. I asked my batchmates and they’re game even if it’s in Tagaytay. BRA, we’ll need to collect 1k per batch.
4. EdRes Updates c/o Iyla (5 mins)
- Iyla: The DG with ETC is on November 9, the room is ready and will be extended to 7PM. For Fin, I asked for a 50-50 share but they said if we want a 50-50 share, we need to give more people for FGD facis because we're only required to give 2. They would also need 1 moderator from us. We're already in charge of fin, logistics and ER. Is it okay that we bear all financial costs for speakers, token and maintenance?
- Kevin & Howie: Yes
- Ian: Is it okay if there’s someone from SESC in the programs?
- Iyla: They’re working on it since they’re in charge of manpower.
- Iyla: Please let me know if you can’t make it to NYC, and please sign up as facis already.
5. STRAW Updates c/o Josh (5 mins)
- Josh: Tomorrow, there will be dogs in Econ from 11:30-1 at the back parking. On Friday, there will be pot-breaking on a panel board at the back parking. We found free pots. We’ll be releasing a pub for these.
- Josh: The sign ups for mental Health Open Consultations will be released on Friday. We already have 5 psychiatrists and psychologists. We’re expecting around 10 more, but we’ll see by this weekend.
- Josh: The Dear STRAW concerns are the back parking, library etiquette and whiteboard markers (losing ink and hard to understand).
- Howie: How do you plan to do the Open Consultations?
- Josh: The psychiatrists will be the one to coordinate with the people who signed up so it’s as discreet as possible.
6. Silakbo Updates c/o Kevin (5 mins)
- Kevin: We have 1 additional concessionnaire for Silakbo next week.
- Howie: Can the financial statement be released soon?
- Kevin: It can be released but it would be better after next week so I can make up for the deficit through Silakbo.
7. Midsemester Evaluations Gameplan c/o Paje & Howie (10 mins)
- Howie: This will be on October 20, Friday next week. The forms that will need to be made are the external, core, and internal evaluation forms. I felt the need to add the core evaluations so we can learn how to lead them better.
- Howie: For the external midsem evals, can you ask at least 50 people from each batch to answer? For the Sophies and Freshies, can you get all of your batchmates to answer?
- Steph & Angelo: Yes
- Javi & Yana: Yes
- Louise & Kayla: Yes
- Theresa & Jackie: Yes
- Miguel: Before GA, you’ll need to answer it already since we need to compile the results. The problem last year was that at least one person was not able to answer the form, so if one does not answer, I won’t release it.
- Howie: Who can provide transportation? Paje, Theresa, Je, Howie, Josh
8. Econ @ Work & Career Talk Updates c/o Cams (5 mins)
- Cams: Econ @ Work is on October 23, 1-3pm. We will leave Econ by 12. We’re partnering with NEDA. Who can go? Jackie, Paje, Angelo, Louise, Jolo, Kayla*
- Cams: We have a teaser for Econ @ Work tomorrow please like and share.
- Cams: PCC is having a forum on October 24, SE 125, 1-4PM. They’ll be talking about topics that are posted in the pub later.
- Cams: For Career Talk, the topic is Data Science and Marketing. The problem is on Nov 9, we have Edres DG and Spechoes. Electives 101 on Nov 23 is marketed towards Sophomores but we’ll be split as a Council if we hold it then. Jackie and I talked about t and we can postpone it to the next sem.
- Ian: We can adjust GA to a Thursday to accommodate it on a Wednesday.
- Kevin: Some people have later classes.
- Paje: We can move the GA to a Monday since we all seem free after 5, but our best bet is to move it to a Thursday rather than have GA after the event. It’s bound to extend with egress.
- Je: We can have a poll on fb.
- Howie: Okay, tentative date is Nov. 22.
9. Other matters
- Je: Thank you to BRA for making hatak to Schoolympics. There were around 70 all in all throughout the event. My problem was the court wasn’t so nice and some got injured. We’ll set another one next week.
- Ian: ACLE tomorrow so please brig and share as well as Kapihan. The FRV issue was talked about in the USC GA. There will be a fact-finding committee even if the frats have a;ready called truce.
- Bets: On October 26 or 27, there will be a Halloween Alay for the kids and grandchildren of the personnel. I’ll be talking to the SEAC orgs on Monday at the SEAC GA so we can coordinate the set up. I’ll be sending the proposal/invitation to the admin first so I have a headcount of the number of kids going.
