16. Other Matters
1. GA Tidbits
- World: Mass deportation of Chinese from Fiji in latest offshore crackdown by Beijing
- Local: AFP distributes 98M to kin of fallen soldiers in Marawi
- UP: No tuition collection this semester
- •Random: Hackers post a fresh stack of HBO films online and demand a ransom in millions
2. Freshie Advanced Registration Evaluations c/o Bets
- Points for Improvement: Stamp back of Form 5, more concise presentation/orientation for Ma’am Kraft
- Kayla: I think it’s okay for it to be long because there’s no other avenue for this to be discussed.
3. Freshie OrSem Evaluations c/o Jolo
- Jolo: I’ve received a lot of good feedback from the freshies
and orgs. I think we can improve on the ending cause after
the amazing race, it didn’t really end with a bang, and sputtered. - Howie: How many freshies attend?
- Jolo: Around 38.
- Howie: How did the orgs react to the entire event?
- Jolo: They were okay, I made sure to check up on them from time to time.
- Ian: The freshies who didn’t go to OrSem were also the ones who didn’t go to the Freshie Advanced Reg, so we’ll have to reach out to them.
- Jackie: The GGs should have been oriented to handle situations they aren’t sure of. For the orgs, we should update them in the amazing race whether Freshies were still coming since it was really humid.
- Joaquin: They thought it was really tiring since they had to walk really long.
- Cams: SEAC would have wanted to use a smaller room since there were only a few freshies.
- Jolo: It was more because it was tradition, and I agree that a smaller room could have been used, but I made sure to fill it with decorations.
- Howie: For the next orsem, find a way to push through with the program without moving the chairs around too much.
- Howie: In terms of costing, how did it go?
- Jolo: I felt that I was going a little over budget, but it turns out, I was still within budget. We finished the budget and still have money to carry over to the next events.
- Paje: The orgs had a lot of fun and they were amused with the freshies.
4. GrandPakain & Giveaways Evaluations c/o Jolo & Josh
- Josh: People were amused with the Dove giveaways and note. Next time, we could add more since it ran out quickly.
- Jolo: It was good that we got to feed everyone and the weather was fine. Next time, I was hoping that maybe a member from the SEAC org who contributed be the one to serve the food for recognition. I like how the giveaways complemented the food of the GPak.
- Jackie: My batch mates seemed happy naman.
- Kayla: The food we gave was chicken joy but it was only 2 buckets so maybe we could give more next time.
- Yana: We could get something like Amber’s next time since the serving is big.
- Javi: We can capitilize on this event in the future like mxing it in with the org fair
- Jolo: The admin have been really happy about the Gpak and we made them go first, so they were amused. With this, the GPak reached this goal.
- Paje: Everyone liked the selection of food, but I think the orgs could have talked to the freshmen more
- Jackie: Maybe it’s better to assign food to batches like dessert to this batch and ulam to another. We can also add rice next time to add to food.
- Howie: If pizza is brought next time, have it square cut.
- Javi: Since we had a lot of shiftees and transferees, they were asking where they could buy UPSE Merch.
- Yana: You can have a separate line for those who bring their own tupperwares/ utensils. They can also be first in line to incentivize people to bring.
5. Preliminary FreshMonth Evaluations c/o Jolo
- Jolo: I’ve been hearing people talk about Freshmonth but it hasn’t hit them that much yet since people rushed to the food. I think it will really sink in for org fair and Acquaintance day.
- Jackie: The seniors don’t really see it as a Freshmonth event but rather something for all.
- Louise: They aren’t so involved in Orsem, but they commend the pubs and everything. They’ll probably appreciate it more in Akwe.
- Kayla: They’re amused with the themes since they aren’t as vague as before, and each event is apt for the event like Friends for GPak and Stranger Things for Orsem.
- Jolo: It’s something that’s new and have yet to establish, so I feel like by org fair, we can get it moving.
6. SAC Event Updates c/o Je
- Je: There will be a pottery event on Monday (2-4) in FA. The fee is 400.
- Howie: My worry is attendance since the fee is a little high.
- Je: I was hoping to get at least 2 per batch. Sign ups are going to be released on Thursday.
7. MARC Updates c/o Cams
- Cams: We only have 9 responses out of 30 for the BSP Visit. I haven’t gotten a reply from tita Abby. Fresh grads would have wanted to go but a lot of them have work.
- Howie: We could open it to the graduating batch to get more people to go.
- Cams: Ateneo ENTABLADO is a socio-political org that’s inviting us, and in return they will promote SESC. *consensus no*
- Cams: UP SIKAT 50th anniversary prediction on August 25, but it’s conflict with Akwe, so no.
- Cams: UPIC is inviting us to be an org partner for Funding The Future.
- Miguel: I feel like it’s an automatic yes.
- *consensus Gold*
- Cams: I’ve uploaded the new letterhead in the
- Cams: The Lost Bread is asking for a year-long partnership wherein you can get a free cup of coffee for a 30 peso purchase. Every event will have to include them in every pub. Kapekonomiya was also brought up, and they’re willing to be a coffee sponsor except it isn’t ready to drink coffee.
- Howie: Maybe we can give a counter proposal and bargain for them to be in only main pub events.
8. Takeoff Bazaar Updates c/o Kevin
- Kevin: It’s going to be next week already, so you can stop by to support. No need for shifts.
- Howie: How much will we be earning from that?
- Kevin: 56k instead of 30k since a lot of stalls added.
- Iyla: Will there be merch released?
- Kevin: Yes, but it’ll be released after the bazaar, so it’ll be easier to take orders. Pre- orders will be released before Akwe so they can be released.
9. Freshie Batch Rep Election Updates c/o Javi & Yana
- Yana: SE 114 will be reserved. A pub will be posted along with the remarks such as the attire and length of speech. A program and script is already set.
- Howie: Who can host? *Jolo & Javi*
- Yana: Josh and Bets will do opening remarks, also please prepare questions since you’re their predecessors.
10.Council Room Makeover Updates c/o Betina
- •Betina: The proposal has already been sent to Ma’am Kraft. I’m just waiting for her approval
11. Org Fair Updates c/o Miguel
- Miguel: I’ve talked to them already and I’ll be posting a layout since I want to give better slots to orgs that need the opportunity more. We need to take care of the new orgs.
- Miguel: BRA is usually in charge of making the Council booth pretty. We’re not gonna have much of a program anymore, just free ice cream. I plan to ask the org heads to talk in front too. The pub will be released on Sunday.
- Miguel: I’ll be collecting the rec posters and posting it in an album.
- Howie: We can release core sign ups there. Junior batch reps, since you’re in charge of BRA, kindly take charge of the design for council booth.
- Howie: Habitat is asking if they can become an UPSE org.
- Miguel: We’ve discussed this with Ma’am Kraft, and there are requirements such as 50% +1 Econ members, and whether Economics can really be applied to their org. They’ll have a chance to explain why they can become an Econ-based org.
12. STRAW Updates c/o Josh
- Josh: Dear STRAW is out, so kindly disseminate. They may get a hardcopy and write their concerns there and drop it in locker 60.
- Josh: Buscopan Venus and Napkins have been added to the First Aid kit. I plan to get 2 boxes from the X-deals to replenish the bathrooms.
- Josh: The Manila Water construction is temporary. They wil come back to fix it. The Back Renovation has been sent to CMO and will be followed up. The fumigation has finally be approved but we have to promote CLAYGO more to avoid insects infesting the place. I’ll be posting the CLAYGO sign soon.
13. HARAYA Team Updates c/o Senior Breps
- Jackie: By Tuesday, we’re hoping to already settle the packages, so we may print ASAP. There will be a page for Council, so maybe we can put the services or announcements for that.
- Jackie: We will try our best to subsidize our yearbook since a lot of our batchmates expect to pay cheap. We plan to form a scheme where if they get a certain number of solicitations, they can have the yearbook for free.
- Iyla: Will the photoshoot be this sem?
- Jackie: There’s a big possibility it will be.
- Theresa: We’re starting to plan 2 thesis seminars and a How-To-Life per sem.
14. Free Tertiary Education Statement Update c/o Howie
- Howie: Other orgs are starting to have comments on our stand for free educ, so feel free to stop by on Friday. We’ll be standmaking here at around 5PM.
- Je: Maybe when the tax reform is passed, you could start looking into free educ.
15. Diliman Rights’ Watch Proposal c/o Howie
- Howie: I was asked to co-head DRW. It won’t include the whole SESC, but I just want to let you guys know about this decision. The political implications will still be in-line with SESC’s since UPSE has always been for the Magna Carta.
16. Other Matters
- Kevin: Please pay for Council shirt and ID.
- Jolo: Akwe is going to be called Siklab. Each house will be named after a famous Economist. The description of each house is important since we’ll need to know what each stands for. The house banner will be made by the batches. The dimensions will be given, and you guys fix the design as long as it has the color. There will be a max 5 min cheer These will be cheered throughout the program and the rest of the year. No indecent or controversial cheers. Councilors will be with the batches; you guys serve as ushers. You won’t be allowed to repeat players. The creative presentation is an interpretation of the theme given to you. Admin and profs will be judging. The theme is The role of Economics in Nation Building; Ambisyon 2040.
