- Maui: World News - Ten more people on a cruise ship off Japan have tested positive for the new coronavirus, local media said on Thursday (Feb 6), raising the number of infections detected on the boat to 20. Japanese authorities have tested 273 people among the approximately 3,700 passengers and crew members on the ship after a man who got off the boat last month in Hong Kong tested positive for the new strain. - Josh: Local News - "Crater glow" observed recently at Mount Mayon could be a precursor of eruptive activity, the country's chief volcanologist said Thursday. Mayon's crater could have glowed in the last 2 days because magma or a charge of molten rocks rose towards its crater, said Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum. Magma usually solidifies. However, it will glow if the volcano is about to have another eruptive activity, he said. (https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/02/06/20/mayon-eruptive-activity-may-follow-crater-glow-phivolcs)
- Cami: UP News - Mathematics professor Fidel Nemenzo—known for his progressive stance on various issues—has been selected as the new chancellor of the University of the Philippines Diliman. Nemenzo, the incumbent vice chancellor for research and development, is the Diliman campus’ 12th chancellor, succeeding Michael Tan. - Orallo: Random News - Reports: Grizzlies extend-and-trade Andre Iguodala to Heat
2015 NBA Finals MVP reportedly agrees to 2-year, $30-million extension (https://www.nba.com/article/2020/02/05/reports-andre-iguodala-trade-heat-grizzlies)
II. ASEO Org. Fair Evaluations - Vice-Chairperson
- Regina: This is based on the evals of ASEO. They said they liked the shift from the usual org fair since there are a lot of externalities. It was easy to relay to the freshies what they were doing in their respective orgs. And for me, it was interactive and it was nice cos the organizations pinaghandaan nila. Yung rooms for improvement lang, di lang kasi nila ganun ka-sure kung maraming freshies na pumunta. I told them 20-30 freshies went and it was close to the poll from Third and Cami. Tapos, yung decorum lang ng mga orgs and council medyo maingay.
- Cami: I want to comment na that I liked the idea na ganun yung org fair cos for the freshies yung UPCG wala masyadong exposure before tapos after this a lot want to app.
- Maui: Question lang, natuloy ba yung nagikot sila for questions?
- Regina: May time constraints kasi aand I feel like sa question and answer portion it was addressed
- Zion: I also like na all orgs were given a lot of exposure na equal and observation lang di ba kasi kami ni mitch nasa labas. There was like an intimidation factor cos some were hesitant to go inside cos wala silang masyadong kilala dun.
III. ASEO Plansem Updates - Vice-Chairperson
- Regina: So ayon, recap lang, we first tackled the recap of the Vision-Mission which was to communicate internally and to be proactive with the external events ng Econ. Based on the internal evaluation, maganda daaw yung communication ng ASEO this semester and I make it a point to talk to all the orgs as convener. Kailangan daw iimprove yung initiatives this semester, especially sa socio-civic aspect but we will address this during econ week. Noong VC presentation, I proposed a pilot system which I brought up to Jolo during the end of SEAC, so I proposed na magkaroon ng internal committees yung aseo like there’s one for secretariat to take the minutes, then there’s internal and external relations, and campaigns and statements. Basically, since 9 yung orgs, there will be 2 orgs per committee assigned and since it’s a pilot run, wala masyado maraming gagawin. Like for sec, it’s just minutes for that GA and for statements, for whatever we release for ASEO. Yung externals, it’s just for social media. For internals naman, I just need help in reporting regarding the tambayan like the cleanliness. So basically, that was the chunk and the other chunk was Econ Week na magstastart na to prep soon and we asked all the orgs if they’re all willing to join and they all are. And we will propose the good will games (mini games) may participation yung ASEO. Cos based on my observation from last year, there were a lot of attendees from orgs but they weren’t doing anything. So we proposed na may station sila to facilitate the games.
IV. Proper Decorum Reminders - Secretariat
- Jv: Ive noticed lately ang daming nagaganap na last minute… what I want to point out is we have good relationship with admin, but then I don’t want to take advantage of that. Sana next time, especially if may mamomove, don’t tell them a day before, give them leeway like 3-5 days to fix their sched. Imagine si tita rosette lang nagfifix ng sched fore everyone’s reservation and I don’t want to burden her with this amount of changes. In the past 2 weeks weve had so much changes na. I don’t want a day na mapagsabihan tayo about this… as much as possible I want to adhere to that and my policy na if may last minute changes kayo mag-aayos
- Josh: I just want to add na yung 15 mins leeway for GA is to habol from your class, grace period. Not to do other things, di yon para abusohin, pag may pumasok lagpas 430… may rules naman tayo, wag natin abusohin, yun.
V. Finance Updates
- Mitch: updates lang, now we are collecting penalties for the rummages for the last rummage sale so it’s around Php 1,000+. And there will be another rumamge sale in collaboration again with Haraya. Then for the food fair, lininaw ni Angelo na isa lang yung entitlement for org. So with UPIC, we will have a food fair in March and kung matuloy man yung February natin, hindi na siguro mangyayari because of the requirements of VCO. For the bazaar, march 2-13, we’re okay na with the L&S and tents, ongoing pa rin yung emails and posts sa bazaar groups and so faar we have 15 concessionaires. The concerns lang is about the length of stay ng concessionaires. For e*store, we ordered na sa supplier, the desgins for the shirts and lanyards, I sent it na sa GC. I found a supplier na rin for our drifit shirts na maroon cost that’s what the alumni wants. Tapos, question ko lang din which is better, to post e*store designs (since we are planning to have models) without the model or the shirts mismo.
- Andi: Post na muna without the model
- Mitch: Okay. Tapos for the windbreaker, matagal magreply yung supplier but we have the bucket hats and the pins. Tote bags, design nalang kulang and I asked help from orallo’s core. Do you guys have suggestions for the designs? Sunflower? Cos di ba usually girls buy it din.
- Andi: Try partnering with Haraya rin for it.
- Mitch: may nakita akong windbreaker sa manila na super ganda pero I don’t know what the supplier is
- Cami: I have that windbreaker I can ask for you alam ko medical org yun for Manila
- Mitch: Ayun thank you!! Tapos I have na the budget for Kape and for the V-day initiative. For our money, it’s less than 10k na, but if you need money, tell me a day before para dalhin ko. Tapos for the receipts, please keep them and balak ko na maglabas ng fin statement from the first semester.
- Reg: suggestion lang, yung system ni John last year, he gets the receipts within that week para hindi mawala yung receipt
- Mitch: Si vina rin ganun ginagawa pero sige gawin ko yun. And if sobra yung budget, return it nalang.
- Josh: Yes just a reminder please just give the receipts kaagad.
VI. LCC GA and Core Reminders - Chairperson
- Josh: The LCC GA can’t be next Monday since they have a UP fair night so the next week pa yung LCC (February 17). Next yung core team building, it’s next Monday na since it has the highest vote. It will be 1-4pm. I’ll announce it tonight. Then the core GA, it will be on February 19 lunch time. More specific details I’ll post sa group.
VII. Kape Updates - Education and Research Councilor
- Vina: For Kape, it will be on Feb. 26, 4pm onwards. And then on going na yung preparations namin. For programs, magdedelgate na for sure ng NEDA ng speaker for the Economic perspective. And we already sent out emails for the other lenses. Then for log, they are coordinating na for the posters. We will have a tarp in front of Vinzon’s. We already sent first batch of emails for org partners. Then we are waiting for the Econ Admin’s endorsement and we are still sending more. Rejected kami lahat so far sa Corprel but on-going pa rin yung pagsend ng emails. Then for Media we have WhenInManila, Inquirer.net, and DZUP so far.
VIII. UPSurge: DG Decon - Education and Research Councilor
- Vina: Okay naman so far today and naabot ng core ko ng quota nila na 20 heads per day and at least 1 shift per day. It’s good rin cos a lot of people are asking especially the seniors and we have positive responses from the people. Also, it’s good marketing for Kape. And so far, nakuha namin lang yung freshies. But we got naman a few seniors and juniors. And very few sophies.
IX. R-Seminar Updates - Junior Batch Representatives
- Steph: First and foremost, I wanna apologize (in behalf of mario) for the confusion especially head office cause hindi namin na-update sila. And I re-scheduled rin with Tita and apologized. And we moved it na sa Feb. 11, same time, room 103. And malaki yung room cause we are expecting bigger flows. And we are about to talk to OBEM for a partnership for the second R-Seminar for the 131 class.
- Mario: For the speaker, we asked him kaagad kung puwede siya and thankfully okay siya dun and one brought up kung puwede iincentivize yung r-seminar so I sent an email na.
- Steph: The demand is kinda low rin
- Mario: pero it’s the same naman as the stata seminar so it’s okay
X. Climate Justice ED Updates - Freshman Batch Representatives
- Cami: So for our DG we chose Climate Justice for our final topic and it’s headed by Reiko, Third, and I. Then we have one speaker already si Jc Punongbayan and it will be held in SE 103, 4-6pm. And we aim to officially meet our core tomorrow or next week but we’ve been meeting online. We’re looking for 1-2 more speakers from environmental orgs and we aare finalizing our partnership packages rin this weekend.
- Third: We will have posters and teasers and we are making pa a marketing deck for the event. Then we will have IGPs to raise funds for the event. And tulad ng sinabi ni Cami, we are looking for partner orgs and NGOs. So we are eyeing Haribon, Greenpeace, etc. We are also planning to partner with those sa advocacy fair last sem. Do you guys have any suggestions of speakers or org partners?
- Josh: yung letter ng ginagamit niyo is it SESC?
- Third: We haven’t started yet.
- Josh: You can use our letterhead and daan niyo rin kay Maui.
- Maui: is this open for all or freshies lang?
- Third: Open to all
- Andi: Try to get incentives rin.
XI. Other Matters
- Vina: I forgot to mention lang but ilalaunch na yung events page ng Kape on Sunday so please support
- Shin: For juniors, we just wanted to let everyone know that we disseminated na the sensing form and we will start this weekend for formal planning. As of now, it’s environment. And we want to do something different.
- Maui: For the stat partnership, the audi is not available during their event but we can still partner we just share their pubs
- Andi: For diwa, we started sending out emails so puro follow up nalang and for the valentines initiative, Giselle and I will just fix the details after the GA.
- Giselle: So rinelease yung call for officers last weekend, pero konti lang yung nagsign up. Please hatak people nalang to join so we can start moving. Medyo hirap kami gumalaw ngayon
