- Dylan: World News - Academy Awards 2020: Parasite makes movie history, while acting awards follow the script. - Mario: Local News - Philippines Moves to Shut ABS-CBN, Its Leading Broadcast Network. The Philippine government moved Monday to end the franchise of the country’s leading broadcast network, the latest push by the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte against media outlets that have been critical of his leadership. The Philippine solicitor general, Jose Calida, lodged a complaint with the country’s highest court, accusing ABS-CBN Corp. and its subsidiary, ABS-CBN Convergence, of violating the operating franchise it was granted by Congress, which is set to expire in March. - Andi: UP News - UP Fair happening this week with nights attributed to a specific advocacy.
- Mitch: Random News - Free planetarium shows, stargazing on Feb. 16-22 to mark Nat’l Astronomy Week
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the agency mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 130 to spearhead the annual celebration, has prepared activities for the whole celebration. The free planetarium shows and telescoping sessions will be held at the PAGASA Planetarium on Agham Road and PAGASA Observatory in UP Diliman, Quezon City, respectively. II. R-Seminar Evaluations - Junior Batch Representatives
- Shin: We want to thank those who got to attend the seminar thanks for telling time to go! Strenghth is that so much people went and Mario got incentive through sir Jandoc kaya dumami yung attendees. So super thank you kay Sir Jandoc for the incentive
- Mario: yung weakness naman, yung 131 and 132 students had to find a middle ground on what to discuss but then I heard that both sets still learned new things. Opportunities, the speaker reached out na he’s willing to do more seminars also for seniors taking thesis
- Shin: Threats it’s not much time pero he still discussed a lot and then napostpone din yung R-Seminar last week. Late payment din cause we had 2 transactions and medyo nagalit yung tita so next time we should pay eaarly
- Andi: Did we partner with OBEM?
- Shin: No
- Mario: Pero ETC asked for his contact
- Shin: and we were gonna partner with them with the 131 set but then because of the incentive a lot went na so yun.
- Maui: Tapos I think suggestion dapat he said the code earlier para we didn’t spend too much time on it cos gets naman yun.
- Josh: Okay so ito yung first time na maraming pumunta sa R-Seminar so good job guys.
III. UPSurge DG Decon Evaluations - Econ. Rep. to the USC
- Je: For UPSurge DG Decon Evals, I asked Erica from the Econ Rep Core about the strengths and weaknesses.
- Strengths - marami na-reach in Econ and the information for the topic was well researched and concise. We were also able to document and post during the event so it was good that people knew about it.
- Weaknesses - the discussion could have delved more on the economic impacts. But I think Kape would cover this more, but then again UPSurge is an initiative independent of Kape, so point for improvement siya for future DG Decons kung paano mas mabibigyan pansin ang Econ perspective.
- Strengths - marami na-reach in Econ and the information for the topic was well researched and concise. We were also able to document and post during the event so it was good that people knew about it.
- Cami: It was really nice that the speakers were interactive with the people. This was Mitch, Erica, and someone.
- Reg: Feeling ko yung sa econ. Impact, it’s more on the competition side dapat nagfocus cause that’s the issue now even in congress. Like with grab, if someone enters against them, bababa yung prices, etc. So yun
- Mario: Yeah there was a small part sa primer regarding it naman
- Je: It’s a DG Decon naman, not everything talaga will be discussed but baka puwede yun yung focus. There are 3 more runs of DG Decons so yun, if there are any suggestions tell me lang.
IV. Finance Updates
- Mitch: Fin statement to be released on Saturday. Tapos E*store to be released on Sunday or Monday! I am coordinating na with Orallo for the pub.
V. LCC GA and Core GA Reminders - Chairperson
- Josh: Okay so LCC is on Monday na 1-4pm in SE 103. Tapos I hope everyone goes pa rin. Then the core GA will be on Wednesday next week so tell core and I will give reminders. It will be 11:30-1pm. There will be interaction with your core so please prepare.
VI. Freshie DG Updates - Freshman Batch Representatives
- Third: For the speakers, Reiko contacted na sa Envi orgs ng UP and thanks Andi for giving us more possible speakers. We have two prospective speakers na rin. Then we have a prospective list for orgs with packages for partnerships. Thank you Orallo for the letterhead. We are still looking for incentives here in econ for the DG. So if you have suggestions please just tell us.
- Josh: Message Ma’am Magno, Ma’am Daway, Ma’am Tan, Ma’am Escresa. Also sir Suanes. And Ma’am Epetia. For the list, I will give it to you then give it to the students of their class so they can hand it out. Ano ulit theme niyo?
- Cami: Climate justice
VII. Kape Updates - Econ. Rep. to the USC
- Je: we have 2 weeks left for Kape and for programs medyo we’re having problems cos puro pending yung speakers. Like for econ perspective we tapped someone from NEDA but then we are still waiting for the specific person. Then we also got from Grab but again we’re waiting for an actual person to speak. Then the last, may isang confirmed sa urban planning. She’s willing but she said she is not a transport planner. So if we find someone directly from transport, it would be better and she’s okay with it. Tapos I talked to Pat na for possible suggestions, though he said none at the moment since they focus more on the jeepney modernization program. For ER, so far there’s 2 confirmed org partners: UP Alyansa and Ecosoc. The problem is they have someone pending a logo so we’ll get it pa later. Right now they’re targeting 5 org partners. Yung for corporate partners, meron nang nag-email back, but not yet confirmed, and for the coffee partners, di pa nagrereply we’re waiting on UCC. Then for pubs, dapat rinelease na yung main pub kagabi but because of the kakulangan ng logos, Sunday pa marerelease. Baka lang magclash sa fin.
- Mitch: It’s okay Monday na ako
- Je: Okay thank you so please share the Kape pub and the following week may infographic pubs just please share it also. Basta right now, pinakaconcern is maraming pending kaya di kami makagalaw. Like log, they’re okay na with the venue and the materials, but then the partners, mahirap kasi most are pending. Also, we need help for IGPs Pat del thought na if puwede shirt sale pero wala pang design and sticker design. If nafinalize na yung incentive letters, please help us nalang din to give it to your professors and this is important for the attendance. Since I am convener na, Luke is the programs director.
- Reg: Feeling ko, baka puwede org partner or publicity partner yung ASEO.
VIII. Valentine's Day Initiative - STRAW and Internals
- Andi: Giselle and I packed 150 bags and we will set up a booth near the lounge it will be from 11:30-4pm. Please encourage people to get. We’re targeting Econ people but we can give out to non-econ people din naman. Please tell your batchmates to come pass by for a surprise.
- Josh: Do you guys need anyone from council?
- Andi: No naman but if you can help give some away, then feel free to help! Then I was thinking we can give the staff if may extra. We spent din a lot less than our budget we just spent 1500 out of 2500 so we got to save.
IX. BRA Outreach Updates - Batch Representatives Alliance
- Mario: We got the final consensus and it’s still environmental across each batch. So now we will look into where we can go and what we can do.
- Shin: And since parating na, as early as now, we will inform you guys that we will collect 1,000 each per batch. So aside from that, that’s it. I have a question, for transpo, us muna?
- Josh: you can ask council muna and then sa form you can indicate sa form if puwede magprovide ng transpo
- Maui: Will you ask for partners?
- Shin: Yeah puwede ASEO and we can ask Ecosoc for counts.
- Dylan: Are we stable enough for Mitch to subsidize?
- Josh: Nope, may econ week pa.
- Mitch: Hintayin natin yung March 15 bago tayo magsplurge.
X. Other Matters
- Reg: Invite ko lang kayo, may pa photoshoot yung CAP para sa job fair nila in Camera Cart. I’ll send you guys the details nalang. 9am to 3pm yun.
- Josh: Yung bayad sa IDs please give it to me and since we don’t have Edres, we will release next week call for appointment. By next week sana meron na tayong Edres. More than that, since the issue, it’s not done yet, can we please avoid spreading news na hindi naman tama. If may nagsprespread, I know something na unnecessary na kumakalat. So please lang. Vina already resigned. Let’s move forward and make sure we do the right thing. We will make sure that the council is updated regarding the case.
