1.GA Tidbits (5 mins)
•World: Senator slams Trump over racial slur
•Local: Grab driver beat up after returning passenger’s left-behind cellphone
•UP: UP Fair this week
•Random: Possibly last frog of its kind, Romeo, is on an online dating cite trying to find itself a mate
2.Tuklas Evaluations c/o Josh (5 mins)
•Josh: It was okay, but the attendance went down from last sem where there were 150 on the first day. This time, we only had 150 all in all. The partners were good and some event thanked us through email. We ended up with 18 NGOs since FOCA and Miss Possibilities decided to come.
•Howie: For those who were on shift, what are their comments?
•Jackie: I think the small space compensated for the low attendance. It made it look like there were a lot fo people.
•Iyla: The NGOs were confused why people were having them sign the flyer.
•Jackie: Maybe it would be good to explain the instructions in the MOA.
•Cams: We should fix the layout to make the Council booth the first thing they see so they don’t forget to sign up.
•Howie: Did the org partners show up?
•Josh: Not a lot compared to last sem. All of SEAC showed up though.
•Howie: If the layout is going to be like that in the future, I feel like the Council booth should be near the back.
•Josh: We should have two council booths in that case since there are two usual entrances.
3.BRA Valentines Day Initiative Updates c/o BRA (5 mins)
•Steph: We’re going to make little packages to be distributed among the batch.
•Yana: We’ve ordered cacti for the batch to be given away. Instead of flowers, we plan to give a plant so they don’t wither.
•Kayla: We plan to give them packed goodies and give them away.
•Theresa: We plan to do the same then a small pub pakulo. It’s a gif asking “Who’s your valentine?” then it’ll stop on a name.
•Howie: In setting up a booth, did you ask 101?
•Steph: We plan to carry it with us and give it away.
•Yana: We’re planning to set up a table and a few chairs outside the lounge.
•Jackie: We’ll share the table with Yana.
•Je: We should give the admin something.
•Bets: I’ll bake for them tonight.
4.Career 101 Updates c/o Cams (5 mins)
•Cams: We have Sam Cinco for Academe. We’re still looking for Law. I’ll follow up with Cara for Government. If not her, Adri.
•Howie: How about the venue?
•Cams: SE 121 has been approved. The pub should be done by this week.
•Howie: Who will host? Josh and Jolo
5.Internships 101 Updates c/o Yana & Javi (5 mins)
•Javi: It’s next week, Thursday. We plan to get 1 speaker to talk about his internship.
•Yana: We plan to get Raffy Arcilla since he interned where he’s currently working, but right now, he’s still pending. We got a speaker who works at Monterey Meats.
•Javi: We also got a speaker who came from Economics but got into an unconventional job.
•Yana; It’ll be about helping the batch find the kind of internship they want to get into.
•Howie: Who will host?
•Javi: I can handle it.
•Howie: Do you have backup speakers in case some don’t show up?
•Javi: The one with an unconventional experience hasn’t confirmed but we might get our boss in our internship, AJ Montesa.
6.Magna Carta Lobbying Updates c/o Josh (5 mins)
•Josh: We’ve talked to 3 profs last week. One questioned how the letter of the students has too much power against the BOR.
•Jolo: It’s more on the wording that was used in the document. In their eyes, it makes it seem like we’re too entitled. There was one part that he thought was short-term or at least its solution is short term. Lastly, on enforcement, he found ti redundant.
•Josh: Yeah, he brought up how there’s already a Student Disciplinary Council then there’ll be a Magna Carta Council, so there has to be a compromise.
•Howie: The wording “free” and “compel” were iffy to them, but it didn’t really seem like a problem with the wording. It’s more on having to focus on which issues that affect the majority of the students because if quite a number of students have a problem with something then there must be something wrong with it.
•Howie: DRW’s goal now is to make sure that the transition is as smooth as possible wherein the members are knowledgeable of the document.
•Josh: I just want to follow up with the others since we need to make sure that we’re moving as much as possible. Some of them don’t really respond to emails so you can get in touch with their secretaries or talk to them after class. We can focus first on the meeting next week but please make sure that we get to set dates with the others.
7. Sidhi Recruitment Timeline c/o Paje (5 mins)•Paje: We already have 1 interview scheduled this Thursday. But before anything else, thank you to Javi for stepping up to be the Assistant OIC. As soon as we’ve interviewed all the possible applicants, I’ll present it here to get your feedback then get started. Javi, the EIC and I will only make the editorial board then the rest will be up to them.
8.Reminders c/o Howie (5 mins)
•Howie: When there are shifts, please take it as soon as the link is posted. If you can’t access it, just let us know.
•Howie: When pubs are posted, it’s automatic that you share it. We’ll post it in the core group then kindly tag your cores. The financial statement pub only had around 700 reach unlike last sem’s 5k reach.
•Howie: Please maintain proper decorum in the GA and listen to whoever is speaking.
9.Other Matters
•Bets: I plan to fix the council room by the last week of Feb so please make sure you remove things that you don’t need anymore
•Jolo: Econ Week GA this Thursday. Joaquin, Jevin and Cams, please make your officers go.
•Javi: Just a follow up on the 106 concern in moving the exam. I didn’t know about it right away, but I was hoping to get ideas from you so we know how to go about it next time.
•Yana; The thing with it is that no one spoke up during the announcement.
•Javi: The people who didn’t speak up gave reasons as to why they didn’t speak up, and some took it personally. In the end, there was a miscommunication.
•Theresa: Your syllabus should have it already or at least a rough estimate of when it should be.
•Paje: I feel like it’s a little too much for them to complain but not speak up. Usually, profs set exams at their discretion. The fact that they moved the exam is a big thing since it’s usually only moved because of another class.
•Howie: If someone complains to you next time, make them voice it out to the prof themselves since they are more bound to listen to their own students.
•Joaquin: Our class wasn’t given a choice, so if we could have a system where everyone has an equal say, ti’d be better.
•Jackie: It’ll be difficult to have a poll for the whole class since it’s set for the prof. If there are students who are not okay with it, they should talk to the prof as to when to take they can exam. It should be automatic that when a student isn’t okay with the schedule, they should raise it right away and not let it wait.
•Howie: In the end, I don’t think we can intervene in these classes so they voice their problems out themselves and discuss it within that class.
•Iyla: 191 Monsod tutorial by Danes Cruz, details TBA. It might be on a Monday. Also, 121 Bautista tutorial on Wednesday, tutor TBA.
