- Mikha: World News - China’s new virus cases, deaths rise but increase is lower; 2,124 dead, over 74,500 infected. New virus cases in China rose by just 394 from the previous day, with a rise in the death toll of 114, the government said Thursday, as health inspectors went door-to-door to find every infected person in the worst-hit city. Mainland China has now reported 2,118 deaths and 74,576 total cases. While the overall spread of the virus has been slowing, the situation remains severe in Hubei province and its capital, Wuhan, where the new coronavirus was first detected in December. - Klause: Local News - ‘Bato' hits DJ Chacha over tweet: Is it wrong to be loyal to the president? Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Wednesday lashed back at radio DJ Czarina Balba, popularly known on MOR 101.9 as DJ Chacha, for saying he should just resign if he will just follow President Rodrigo Duterte's stand when voting on the renewal of ABS-CBN's legislative franchise. Dela Rosa was a Philippine National Police chief and then head of the Bureau of Corrections before being elected to the upper chamber of Congress in May 2019. - Third: UP News - UP among world's top universities in emerging economies. The University of the Philippines has once again made it to the London-based magazine Times Higher Education (THE)’s list of top universities from emerging economies around the world. UP placed 70th, up 17 spots from its 87th ranking last year. It was also the only Philippine state university that made the cut. Meanwhile, De La Salle University was in the 351-400 bracket this year, slipping by a hundred spots from its score last year. THE assessed and compared the performances of 533 educational institutions from 47 countries or regions based on teaching (learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).
- Pat del: Random News - Sarah Geronimo seen at 'The Voice Teens' rehearsals amid wedding rumor. Entertainment writer Ricky Lo had earlier claimed that the popstar royalty and her fiancé Matteo Guidicelli were going to tie the knot 'anytime today. II. Valentine's Day Evaluations - STRAW and Internals
- Andi: Naubos yung packages and I was surprised since they were a lot and maraming tao sa lounge and we were able to give in classrooms and sa staff.
- Giselle: Parang mas okay na rin na people walk around and give it since there are people staying in classrooms. And natotouch naman sila.
- Je: They were also able to spend half lang their budget and BRA got to brig. May tweet rin sa council twitter so na-publicize.
III. Finance Updates
- Mitch: So, fin statement was posted last Tuesday. 13,000 yung liabilities natin sa NYC and naiwan sakin 5,000. For e*store, pub posted last Monday and new merch yesterday. Please order na. We have new shirts, windbreakers, and reversible bucket hats (isko and iska, sunflower). We have partnerships with OBEM and UPIC regarding the food fair tapos it will me in CS Amphi and Lagmay. For OBEM it will be 50-50 and for UPIC we will still talk about it. For the bazaar, we are emailing and posting in bazaar groups. We have 11 sure concessionaires and 15 pending. If you know more merchants, please tell me and we can’t kasi give half booth that’s why we keep rejecting. We already made the down payment na rin to ayala. Then for rummage sale, on-going yung collection ng penalty and now we have 6,900.
- Je: Anong plans mo dun sa payables natin?
- Mitch: Sa dulo. Pero if we get a big amount sa bazaar, we can pay it back.
- Josh: We need to pay that para wala tayong mapasa na debt.
- Mitch: We still have receivables within council rin so no worries. And heads up, for those with room reservations with equipment, let me know kaagad so we can settle our payments kaagad and para di tayo mapagalitan.
- Josh: Will you guys also rummage sale?
- Mitch: With Haraya
- Josh: When?
- Mitch: After econ week na mga April. What’s the next bayad?
- Je: Kape
- Mitch: Nagbigay nako sa Kape. So wellness na yung next.
IV. Freshie DG Updates - Freshmen Batch Representatives
- Third: So tomorrow na yung climate justice talk namin. It’s officially called #SystemChange: ED on Climate Justice. We have JC Punongbayan (PHD candidate in UPSE and writer in Rappler), Lino Calderon (WWF). Magiging paperless yung event so the certificates are digital nalang and the tokens succulents siya.
- Josh: Paano digital?
- Third: Through email and request na rin ng speaker yun. Okay so, special thanks to Orallo for the pubs cause he’s helpful sa pubs and also Maui sa externals and Josh for being there as my de facto partner. And Cami, #hiCami. So ayun, special thanks rin sa core (Erica, Macy, Reiko, Gia, Christian, Poch) for helping Cami and me for the event. We have 6 org partners, 2 major partners, and 4 minor partners. We have incentives for Sir Suanes, and 2 pending for Ms. Lee and Ms. Escresa. And they are just asking for the program flow.
- Josh: Are we required?
- Third: No naman
V. Kapekonomiya Reminders - Econ. Rep. to the USC
- Je: Updates first for programs, may isa kaming comfirmed speaker from Grab (PIO) and we are currently waiting for the transport speaker. What we really need is the speaker from NEDA but we keep following up and wala pa rin. And problem is, we can’t decide on a fall back if they don’t reply. The programs team is working on it naman.
- Reg: Yung letter na nasend kay Teacher Stella it’s for legal baka if econ mas ma-accommodate,
- Je: Pinakawala pa kasi yung econ perspective pa so we might drop the legal perspective. I’ll chat you regarding it. I just need to gauge it with the programs team. There is a moderator na rin, si Clarice Tee for Deb Soc it’s just that she’s coming from a class from 4-5:30. And for the missed talks, she will read the minutes and presentation that the kape team will prepare for her. For hosts, it will be Josh Dy and Marianne Sasing. Tinanong sakin, kung gusto council, pero is anyone g to host?
- Josh: Si mitch
- Je: Okay puwede sige yun nalang since programs si Marianne.
- Pat: We have 3 media partners and we have a coffee partner (UCC).
- Josh: Do you need help from council to make timpla?
- Pat: Yes please
- Je: Unexpected kasi siya cos di siya ready to drink coffee so we need manpower. For log, we will confirm the couches if okay na talaga. But the rest is okay. For PPP, we released an infog last night (part 1) and that contained the timeline and facts about the issues. Then another one on Sunday (part 2) is about the opinions of different sectors regarding the issues. Then sabay na yung count down pubs from Sunday onwards. So for general reminders, for Pre-Kape, may printed incentive letters tayo, please just give it to your profs and I’ll have more printed tomorrow. Alternatively, you can send emails to your profs. For the spiel, I included it there. We wanna know sana latest by Saturday for the confirmed ones but we will accommodate it until Sunday. For Kape itself, required event siya, and wear your council shirt. And as much as possible, sana you guys can stay for the entire duration and just let me know if you’re coming late or leaving early. For taskings, it’s more of ushering and coffee. Programs is handled by ETC naman so we will help with the concerns sa backstage and ushering. I will post more reminders sa group by Sunday latest so we’re prepared. And if you guys are free during Kape, try natin makinig sa speakers since it will be interesting.
- Josh: Pag nagpapaupo tayo, let’s make sure na they stay in front first.
- Orallo: Sino nagpopost ng pub?
- Je: ETC posts it sa event page
- Orallo: Will we cover it?
- Je: ETC will since may sarili silang committee.
VI. Haraya Updates - Seniors Batch Representatives
- Josh: Sinama ko yung Haraya since some officers are concerned with how everything is working. Gets ko na some of us maraming ginagawa but it’s kinda bothering me na sa akin lumalapit instead of sa inyo. Like you guys are medyo hands-off daw and they do more of the work and you guys just make kamusta. And I wanted to bring it up so that we can address it and so that we have updates. And sana check on your officers rin na if okay sila.
- Zion: For yearbook, we’re talking to Andrew and they’re done with the lay out and they’re editing the grammar lang ng write-up. For the printing, iba yung supplier since expensive if we use the ones who took our photos. Then release ng sponsorship letter next week for parents.
- Klause: We have a food fair in Fernandez Street and March 19-20 sa UPTC. Tuloy pa rin yung movie screening on April 29 sa UPTC.
- Zion: For grad rites, final date is June 24. Initially we were supposed to do it on a weekend, but according to the admin, mahirap daw if weekend since it’s additional cost sa staff. Mas okay daw a Wednesday. Concern lang is the availability of parents and it’s good that it’s announced earlier. UPFI reservation is also finalized so we have enough time for ingress. For solicitation letter for admin and alumni are ready and concern lang nila email ng alumni but then walang database. So we will coordinate through UPSEAA. And siguro sa concern, kung puwede sabihin samin and from time to time we ask them how they are. But there are people kasi na mas gusto na hands off kami so I guess we need to talk to them about what they want.
- Josh: They probably want na maramdaman kayo.
- Zion: Valid naman
- Josh: Baka kasi nahihiya so talk to them as a team nalang.
- Reg: As a dati Haraya, feel ko ganun talaga. Since heads lang usually kausap pero before officers were talked to before. Strong lang siguro dapat yung communications inside cause that’s where conflict starts.
- Josh: Don’t feel bad baka they just are concerned
- Maui: I’ve been helping Haraya since January and their solicitation was rejected. So I’m trying to give them roots emails but 1 responded lang. I’m not sure how to proceed with that so I told zion to go straight to tita Rose.
- Josh: Yung reason daw dun is cause they don’t really sponsor grad ball so I said try grad rites nalang muna.
VII. Econ Week Updates - Econ Week Team
- Giselle: Complete na yung BOD namin so everything is okay and then yung sub heads complete na rin. Then yung next inaayos na naming yung officers each department and right now reg is fixing the org part of it since a big chunk of the event will be care of the orgs. And we want it good kasi 55 years na yung econ.
- Reg: So I’m in talks with ASEO orgs regarding what they’re gonna do for the whole week and surprise nalang what their events are!!
- Giselle: Instead of spa, what do you guys wanna do?
- Josh: You can focus naman on the batch wars.
VIII. Diwa Updates - STRAW
- Andi: So we started reaching out to professionals two weeks ago and the problem is only 2 said yes and the usual ones declined. We started calling and texting people noong Monday tapos naging 13 + so it’s okay na. And as of now, puro afternoon yung times and I might just make the event 1-4. I’ll talk to orallo about the pub but I might wait before we release the pub for the final number of professionals.
- Josh: Usually sign up naman is 1 week before the event so matagal pa naman.
IX. Wellness Week Updates - SAC and STRAW
- Mikha: For SAC events, it will be spa day and yoga day. So for yoga day, I will look for participants next week na para may sure and for the spa day same but like for students lang.
- Andi: for STRAW, we contacted na the HIV testing and okay na. And for the dog day, we partnered with UP MMDA Vanguard Canine and they’re willing they’re just asking for fans for the dogs.
- Josh: may industrial fan naman sa may Audi.
- Andi: Do I need to email ma’am Magno again?
- Josh: Yes.
X. Other Matters
- Jv: So we will have a donation drive for Ate Yolly since she has stage 4 breast cancer. So let’s help her as much as we can and let the students know para maagapan onti yung expenses niya. She’s always there for us sa lib sana we can be there for her this time around.
- Third: Later, may pub release kami ng speakers for the event ng 7:30 pm.
- Je: As OIC, I already talked to vina with her remaining plans. For UPSurge, it will be a DG ED series, the problem is, it’s about to be planned pa lang so I need to work on it the next week.
- Orallo: Also for the econcepts, may plano si vina for next week or in 2 weeks
- Je: Yeah the original plan was supposed to be about Cory’s time pero wala pang research yung team niya so I don’t know if kaya cos research is usually 10 days before and now it’s less than a week so I don’t know if we’re gonna push through with it or baka late
- Reg: Baka ASEO can write the statement and the SESC can make the infog.
- Orallo: 3 Days before please and I also remember na may statement for Econcepts
- Je: We were supposed to release it noong January and ma’am Epetia already gave the comments back. And my concern lang is if we release it now it won’t have that much reach compared to releasing it on labor day.
- Josh: May nalang.
