- Je: World News - A mob out for blood: India's protests pit Hindus against Muslim. Unrest across India began in December with the passing of a law that makes non-Muslims from some neighboring nations eligible for fast-tracked citizenship - a move many Muslims say is discriminatory and marks a break from India’s secular traditions. Persecuted religious minorities including from Hindu, Sikh, or Christian communities are eligible for citizenship, but those from Islam do not enjoy all the same advantages. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) says the new citizenship law is necessary to protect persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, and denies any bias against India’s Muslims.“They saw I was alone, they saw my cap, beard, shalwar kameez (clothes) and saw me as a Muslim,” Zubair told Reuters. “They just started attacking, shouting slogans. What kind of humanity is this?” (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-india-citizenship-protests-survivor-i/a-mob-out-for-blood-indias-protests-pit-hindus-against-muslims-idUSKCN20K2V8)
- Shin: Local News - PH bans travel of Filipino tourists to South Korea due to coronavirus outbreak. The Philippines imposed a travel ban on Filipino tourists going to South Korea due to a spike in coronavirus cases, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said on Wednesday. When asked if Filipino tourists are not allowed to travel to any part of South Korea, he answered, "Yes, for their own safety."South Korea is a popular destination for Filipino travelers, espcially fans of Korean drama and Kpop. Panelo said there are exceptions to the travel ban to South Korea, which was decided during the meeting of the Inter-agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases. South Korea has the second most number of confirmed cases after China, with 1,146 coronavirus cases. II. Kapekonomiya 2020 Updates - Econ. Rep. to the USC
- Je: This is different because I haven’t talked to the Kape BOD so I wanted to ask you guys your own SWOT regarding the event. So first the strengths, given the limited time, we met our minimum deliverables like getting speakers, the coffee partner, we got to release our pubs, and incentives were gathered. The minimum need to make Kape happen worked despite the limited time. Another one is, maganda yung topic. It was a good decision sa start since there were perspectives that were taken and despite the biglaang nagback out na speakers, we had a contingency plan. Weakness naman, first yung pre-Kape, there was a lack of structure when it came to tasks since personally rin, I tend to plan a lot of things ahead and di siya nakalagay mostly in place so there would be miscommunications like yung pub na maling time na napost, and what not. Then another weakness is it took a while for us to get the speakers cos each speaker would usually ask first who the other speakers were before confirming and na-delay kami ng onti. And di puwede kasi na same perspective na more than 1 speaker cos it would be rude to turn down the other speaker who was also a prospect for the same perspective. During Kape naman, despite the incentives and the hatak, di napuno yung venue and a lot of biglaang announcements from us like the incentives mechanic. It was set beforehand, but because of how it turned out (those who came in late) we had to adjust. So, we had to change the conditions, like you have to stay during the open forum. And then yung endoresement ng USC it was given late so it was pub on the day nalang and aside from that, there were a lot of endorsements rin na hindi na meet and we didn’t also reach the 10 ideal incentives for the event. Also, it was hard din to make the condition of the incentives for them to stay throughout the entire ED so naging mahirap.. For logistics, everything was okay except for the water. . Lastly, di naman nagkulang yung ushers to ask people to move in front but people still wouldn’t move.
- Shin: We were kinda forcing people to stay in front na if ever kasi.
- Zion: They were hesitant rin to transfer
- Je: That’s true. Then for the pubs, we had miscommunication with the postings pero it could’ve been smoother. Do you guys want to add?
- Orallo: Masarap yung kape, yun yung strength ko.
- Andi: I don’t know why I couldn’t see the pubs on my phone but I had to go through your profile to see the pub and I felt like that could be the reason that affected the reach. Also, the reg form, it was long in a sense that people took time to answer. So sana mashorten yun. And I think the ecosoc members also didn’t know where to sign up because they had counts. So we added lang a column for them
- Maui: Sobrang gulo rin yung sign-out since they forgot which laptop they used in signing
- Andi: We should’ve separated them rin per lane siguro.
- Josh: Para sakin, I would’ve preferred the speakers na really in opposite ends. Like grab kasi is supported by the government, they’re technically a monopoly. That’s why I was pushing Angkas. And yun yung nangyari na medyo naaging in-sync yung speakers.
- Je: If we had more time I would probably weigh it more and she was the first confirmed speaker din.
- Josh: Siguro for the next one, sana mas contrasting yung sides.
- Maui: I posted rin on the alum chat and there was this one alum na g to talk and he was against the government but he wasn’t free that day so maybe next time puwede.
- Je: Meron ulit ako isa, more of council’s part, for me it’s not a super big thing but medyo rinig kayo sa loob. The problem is, when people go in, the door di siya nasasarado so medyo rinig yung tiktok sa labas. Another good point, sobrang solid ng UCC coffee and mabilis sila magreply. And the people liked it. Yung update sa coffee, there’s still boxes left. I will update you guys what happens sa hatian since I need to talk about it with ETC rin.
III. Freshie DG Evaluations - Freshmen Batch Representatives
- Cami: First I wanna say na sorry na I wasn’t there and since I wasn’t there, nagpaSWOT ako sa core namin. Strengths- there was a lot of people that came (68) more than what we expected. According to them, maayos yung flow, the speakers were knowledgeable and maganda yung delegation ng tasks internally. Maraming incentives and partner orgs (2 major and 8 minor partners). We were able to use eco-friendly things rin. Solid din yung core kahit late yung planning. Weakness- it started late but ended early. Clutch din yung pagkuha ng org partners so di masyado clear yung terms. Then it was hard thinking of speakers and for the logistics, sana bigger yung room since so much went.
- Third: Opportunities- we could’ve gotten more incentives and more org partnerships. Especially for the incentives, it would’ve helped. Seeing na successful naman yung talk, maybe we can make an event na open for all para we can expand our reach and connections. Also, since there are sponsorships from council, sana we could’ve used it but the speakers are very particular sa waste so baka mapuna nila. But we had a good token naman na potted plants
Threats- the org partners weren’t following the rules ng attendance so we will still coordinate with the core and maybe you can help us for the sanction. And there’s a MOA kasi. - Josh: I think you should message them. Puwedeng more likes or blacklist sa next events.
- Third: Also since late nagawa yung partnerships, it was just hard to finalize but most of the pagkukulang is from the org partners. And, lastly yung last minute incentive approvals like Ma’am Escresa I had to approach her before the event para lang matanong if she agreed. If we had more time to bump emails, we would’ve gotten clearer responses. Thanks to our core!! #HiCore
V. Econ. Rep. Updates
- Je: USC had a special meeting (Since we didn’t quorum) last Saturday. There wasn’t any urgent points naman but, there was a good situationer. They invited Gabriela Youth and they talked about women and VAW. It mentioned its development in congress and the importance of lobbying for it. May na-pass na bill na yung E-VAW. I’m not sure if it’s signed na, but it’s an online version of anti-harassment. And for Women’s Month, we can invite someone from Gabriela Youth to our GA to give a situationer for everyone and so it’s in line with the EdRes and STRAW ED for Women’s Month. We are changing our council logo for that rin (purple).
VI. BRA Outreach Updates - Junior Batch Representatives
- Mario: We’ve contacted partners but wala masyadong reply but Maui brought up the other day na may isang partner (Greenpeace) that wanted to partner with us in the long-run.
- Shin: Another potential contact from WWF from my mom. We will try emailing to find out if we can partner with them.
- Josh: May final date na right?
- Shin: March 14 but it may be subject to change depending on our partners. We also looked for orgs that could give an incentive for their members and we are contacting them rin if they wanna join para wider reach. If ever, tip na rin for the batch reps, you guys can start saving for your contributions (1,000).
VII. Finance Updates
- Mitch: E*Store and Mitch and Match super konti lang yung orders, 7 lang. But I’m not sure if yun yung usual so I’ll bump it muna. For the bazaar, mahirap siya, pero laban lang. For my post, please reshare the pub I made now. Tapos if you guys know any merchants for the bazaar, please tell me. And may 3 na nagbackout so right now we have 17 concessionaires pero wala pang down yung 2 and 4 yung medyo sure.
- Josh: 28 yung target nila mitch
- Mitch: I also got an ice cream vendor for the event. Tapos, si Alto, na batchmate nila Josh, he sells coffee so sana tumuloy siya. Yun lang naman.
VIII. Econ Week Updates - Econ Week Team
- Giselle: first, irerelease na namin yung officers pub by Monday and as of right now complete yung Fin, Mar, and creatives. So log and programs nalang kulang. Based on the sign ups kasi di nagrereach yung target nila. And for log, we told them to look for a venue for Game Theory. If you guys can suggest a venue na puwedeng magulo, please tell me.
- Reg: I will talk to the orgs tomorrow to finalize their events before the ASEO GA. I’ll just require council to attend the events and next week we can update the specifics of everything.
- Mikha: We have things planned for the weeklong games and surprise nalang kung anong mangyayari.
- Mario: Giselle, try niyo yung La Piazza. How much is your budget?
- Reg: 30-40 pero may discount yung last year.
IX. STRAW Updates
- Andi: Okay so, we have 18 councilors and I’m super happy cos I thought we wouldn’t go past 13 and St. Arnold’s added more councilors. Sign-ups will be released this Sunday, hi Orallo. And then, my core and I will start contacting the people and I will submit the log request this week to Jv. I’ll put manila paper sa window if the doors have windows this time around.
- Josh: Are you still doing Tuklas?
- Andi: Yes
- Josh: Try the walkway again para more foot traffic.
- Andi: Maui and I have been coordinating, we have 4 NGO partners right now. And they want to sell things
- Andi: As of now we have 2 student org partners and there are some more that confirmed na I haven’t opened yet.
- Jv: Do we have dear Straw stuff?
- Andi: No pa naman last one was supposed to be sa special GA pero di natuloy so.
X. Wellness Week Updates - SAC and STRAW
- Mikha: Walang bago sa wellness week ng SAC but Wednesday is Yoga day and Thursday is Spa Day.
- Andi: For STRAW, confirmed na HIV testing paratner and for dog day we’re tapping people na to bring. For the org partner, I’m asking how many their bringing para hindi over.
XI. Midsem Evals Updates - Vice-Chairperson
- Reg: For internal evals, March 10 ko irerelease yung atin and one week lang yung leeway. So March 17, dapat tapos na tayo sa evals. Tapos, March 20 yung midsem evals.
- Jv: I’ll finish the form by next week so you guys have two weeks to make 50% of your batch answer it.
XII. Other Matters
- Mikha: So update for Dilgames, it hasn’t started cos na-delay siya. Yung opening of dilgames is now 2nd week of march and there are problems with the reservation ng venues since they’re prioritizing the varsity ng CHK.
- Reg: ASEO GA tomorrow, 4-5pm. Dun sa gagawin natin, if ever yung mga may class, may special task nalang kayo for Econ Week. So there’s two left after tomorrow. Yung March 27, that’s the econ week ng ASEO. Then Turnover is May 1.
- Je: Are we gonna do the routine for applications for Edres?
- Josh: No.
- Andi: We won’t lose anything naman if we release a pub
- Josh: Yes pero again it’s not unconstitutional.
- Je: for elections, it’s gonna be different from SEEB last year since we need to make a call for SEEB heads from our constituents. So we need to start looking for prospects since ang dami nating ganap ng March and baka di maasikaso. ASEO, please bring that up rin na kung pwede na sila magprepare ng reps (1 per econ org) and for BRA also since there are 2 reps per batch. Totally hands-off na yung council. There’s no ex officio since bawal maghead ng SEEB yung council since it can be biased. It may be seen as a conflict of interest. Elections will start after Holy Week na.
- Maui: Who is in charge of choosing the SEEB heads?
- Je: I have to double check the electoral code and dapat fourth year na ata and wala siyang intent to run.
- Maui: Sa council (last year) who decides on the reps?
- Je: The chairperson
- Jv: Don’t forget your log requests.
- Josh: Yung sa Eduk SC, they’re waiting if we’re g. They want the discounted I’m just waiting for their response. We will use our name to use the discount ng Econ Org for Audi. We will be a major partner na.
- Maui: Handog- an educator summit and advocacy fair. Flagship event of the Eduk SC.
- Josh: No one is against it? Okay we will accept this partnership.
