14. Other Matters
- World: French rail workers stage Black Tuesday protest against overhaul
- Local: Uber-Grab faces possible anti-trust probe, PCC considers investigation over acquisition of rival company
- UP: April 6 Deadline of SESC Filing; Campaign period start on April 11
- Random: Channing and Jenna Dewan split after 9 years of marriage
2. Econ Week Evaluations c/o Jolo (25 mins)
- Jolo: For the OBEM event, especially those who played, what are your thoughts on the event?
- Bets: I didn’t get to play but I saw that the participants were really able to interact and even got competitive so it was fun. I think it could’ve gotten more participants though since there were so few and a lot from Council alone.
- Ian: It looked like there were only a few OBEM members there so it didn’t look like a big OBEM event.
- Iyla; I think if it were emphasized to be a decision-making event, it could’ve been better.
- Paje: The game was well thought-of so it was fun so it was sayang that not a lot of people went. Also, it was only pubbed once.
- Joaquin: They have 2 posts. One main and one mechanics.
- Paje: Okay, but I think it could’ve been shared more. Also, there should be more incentives for events like this. OBEM’s really appreciative though.
- Joaquin: I think it was a really great event since the speakers were big names in Finance. Diego got to interact with them well as a host so it was entertaining. Considering the pub didn't get much reach, it was still full.
- Louise: The speakers weren’t boring and really engaged with one another. We were nervous at first since there weren’t a lot of people but they all came in.
- Jackie: There was someone I bumped into at the Acad Oval asking where the event was and I asked where they heard about it and they said it was from FB so i think the reach was pretty good.
- Paje: I was telling Ryan that they didn’t have anything to worry about since their members are very enthusiastic especially when sharing and event during the event. I also feel good about the ETC event since their members really share as well. I didn’t feel that much from the others since they can only rely so much on us- we’re only 19 people.
- Jolo: There was a proposal to make the event in the Audi but they didn’t think it would get filled. Maybe if it was pubbed earlier.
- Je: Paje pointed out that it’s better to have a full 114 rather than an empty Audi.
- Jolo: I wanna get your thoughts on the initiatives. First, Grand Pakain.
- Josh: I think we should have more food.
- Javi: We should also make sure we have enough tools since we were using the same tongs for the 2 spaghettis.
- Theresa: I think we should share the pub about BYOB more.
- Paje: I really liked it. It’s my favorite event on top of Game Theory.
- Jolo: We have money from selling the utensils and plates. Next, the Salamat Kits.
- Josh: It was solid but only one person was working on it at the start.
- Jolo: For the Spa Day, I think it was good especially at the start since there were a lot of admin gathered there just talking and laughing with on another ebfore the massage. The only problem was the waiting time since it was around 15 minutes.
- Howie: Around how many people went?
- Jolo: 30.
- Bets: I think we can come up with a better system next time especially for the admin because what happened was I went around all the offices telling the staff that there were free massages right then and there so they all came at the same time. Next time, we could put a clipboard or sign up sheet right outside the room of the massages so the staff can sign up for a time slot and come back when it’s their turn.
- Jolo: The thing with the dissemination is that we counted on Ma’am Kraft to let the admin know but I think we can work on that next time.
- Cams: For Small scale initiatives, I do think the econ students appreciated it! And we started great with gpak.
- Jolo: Next, batch wars.
- Jackie: There was confusion when it came to the Game Theory games since we were told that if we win the drinking game, we win the whole thing.
- Iyla: Whenever BRA brigs for the batch wars within the day, the games start so late so time is wasted.
- Louise; Are the times really a surprise?
- Jolo: It’s our fault when it came to the lag in posting but it’s really supposed to be set so you can hatak people.
- Joaqiun: Suggestion, maybe we can have a schedule the entire week with the time and venue so BRA can get people to sign up.
- Jackie: The ideal sched is during breaks since it’s hard to get people to play.
- Theresa: I never received a brig so I’d only find out through Jackie who only finds out through staying at the back. If both of us had class, neither of us would know.
- Jackie: Some of the defaults weren’t exactly our fault since the batch wars would start late. The others have prior commitments so the games that didn’t start on time lost players.
- Theresa: All the games would be pushed back since the earlier games would start late.
- Jolo: Next, the Econ Week pubs.
- Joaquin: The branding was on point but the time frame was so jampacked. It was really hard to pub everything so we should start a month earlier. All the orgs followed the branding except UPIC which is understandable. In terms of DPs, I apologize for the late upload. In terms of sharing, we reached 7k at the start but towards the end, it declined.
- Cams: For Pubs, it really showed the event was an econ celebration because of the vectors used. The DPs were super solid! It would be greater if we got to release them earlier, but nevertheless, kudos to Joaquin and M&P.
- Jackie: In terms of pubbing this sem, I think it lacked the hype and it’s probably because the sched was so tight. They all came in quite late. I think we should really prioritize the Econ Week DPs since that’s what really makes people feel like they’re part of the Econ Week celebration and they only felt that at the end. In terms of handling the Econ Week DP, maybe it can be internal since the raw photos were posted in the Econ Week page.
- Ian: Props to the team though since the DPs were really nice.
- Iyla: Suggestion, we should ask them to choose on the spot.
- Joaquin: We tried that in the lantern parade DPs but it was hard since they’d pick a lot.
- Howie: I think you should distribute the colors since most ended up with Yellow.
- Jackie: For future reference, let’s understand the new algorithm of FB since it crops it on the timeline.
- Jolo: For finance, what do you think, Kevin?
- Kevin: There’s no final say in the reimbursements but they only spent 70k when their initial budget was 83k.
- Cams: It was super okay since we were never short.
- Jolo: What do you think of the external relations?
- Jackie: I like how we never ran out of drinks.
- Jolo: What do you guys think of Game Theory?
- Cams: Game Theory was super fun! I hoped more seniors got to go, but given they had exams the next day was pretty much understandable.
- Iyla: The layout this year was better since there was a station for drinks and another for sounds. Also, it’s good there were no beanbags for people to puke on.
- Bets: If getting people wasted was the goal, then I think you very well achieved it but i think the distribution of drinks or maybe with the games could have been paced out more since people were dead by 11:30 and egress was originally at 1am, not 11:30pm.
- Josh: It was solid since there were no casualties.
- Paje: Congrats to Jolo. For future reference, I’m glad the team was big but I wish the utilization was fixed in a better way but I understand why since it’s the first time handlind an adhoc this big. We could have had team DPs like a month before. Second, I think people could be better informed of their tasks since there was a surplus in manpower. By 4pm, there were still a lot of team members in Econ when they should have been in Place One setting up. Next, maybe less alcohol since we saw how dead people got so early. Lastly, the person in charge of the program, EJ, could be more particular or controlling in terms of the tasks. I was expecting better levels of coordination since we were just as big as EM so it could have been at that level. You could release a google form asking when people are free so you can assign them to tasks and give them a copy of the script and flow.
- Jolo: With regards to manpower in game Theory, there were a lot of things we could have coorindated better beforehand. What we coordinated for Game Theory is to be there by 4pm. We lacked the support from other committees since by 4:30, we were around 5-7 people. We weren’t able to coordinate the rest of the plans since we were setting up against the clock and couldn’t do anymore briefing by the end of set up.
- Howie: Overall, do you think it’s a lineup of events we can follow?
- Jackie: I think SEAC was appreciated through the events.
- Cams: I guess overall, we got to solidify UPSE through Econ Week not only externally (for constituents) but also internally (for the organizing body).
- Jolo: Joaquin and I are working on the postdoc. There are a lot of things we can work on for Econ Week but I think the celebration served its purpose. For the next year, I hope it’s built up since it’s already set.
3. Alon Bazaar Updates c/o Kevin (5 mins)
- Kevin: There are 18 concessionnaires. Our profit is lowtide since we’re only getting 10k.
- Howie: Aren’t we deficit if we’re only getting that much from 18 concessionnaires?
- Kevin: No since we’re within budget. This is still profit.
4. Career Talk Updates c/o Cams & Iyla (5 mins)
- Iyla: It is 4:30-6:30 tomorrow, SE 125. Speakers are Earl Viray for Sales, Ignacio Sison for Finance and Mio Chongson for Advertising. We have big time speakers for this talk. They aren’t usual fresh grads since they’re high profile so I hope you guys can go. Please make hatak too. We’ll reshare the pub tonight.
- Howie: How are the taskings?
- Iyla: Who can host? Josh and Jolo
- Who can do reg? Bets
- Howie: When do you guys wanna use the Council Shirt? Synergy or tomorrow?
- Iyla: Maybe we can wear it tomorrow so we can look presentable for the speakers.
- Iyla: Jolo, can we give CBTL? And who has coolers? Yana
- Jolo: Sure.
- Howie: We need to make hatak so BRA please post in your groups. For Seniors and Juniors, I think we are the target audience so please emphasize the event.
5. BRA Outreach Updates c/o BRA (5 mins)
- Louise: The BRA Outreach was supposed to be on Saturday but everyone in BRA are unavailable this weekend. Only Gelo and Steph will be available. In the end, it isn’t feasible so we have to move it. I talked to GK and they said we could move it to a Monday so there aren’t any conflicts. I talked to Kayla as well and she’s okay with moving it to April 23, Monday. Would you guys be okay with this? Yes
- Louise: I talked to Sasee and she agreed to giving it 2 counts. The budget will be allocated to the food and drinks of the participants. I’ll be getting 1k per batch. The minimum needed participants is 10 but I think we’ll be able to fulfil it.
6. STATA/R Seminar Updates c/o Louise (5 mins)
- Louise: It’s on April 11. Our speaker for STATA is JC Punungbayan. I’m going to ask Sir Jandoc for R but he has yet to confirm by this Friday.
- Kevin: You can ask someone from Stat since they study R.
- Louise: We’ll give the taskings next GA. We also requested a pub from Joaquin.
7. HIV Testing Updates c/o Josh (5 mins)
- Josh: We’ve emailed PAF-P. If not next week, they’ll be coming the week after for 2 days.
- Jolo: Most likely Wed-Thurs or Thurs-Fri would be nice so it could hit different schedules.
8. Schoolympics Schedule & Troubleshooting c/o Je (10 mins)
- Howie: There were 3 volleyball games in the morning but none pushed through. There were 3 basketball games as well but only 1 pushed through: Freshies vs Seniors. Players tend to commit to batch reps and tell Je that they can make it but day before, the players back out. It’s a waste because Je pays for the venue and sets up for it.
- Je: We might just have one big Schoolympics instead of having a Prelims. It’ll probably be after BRA Outreach like April 30. Would it be too far in Marikina Sports Complex?
- Howie: Can you try reserving the AGS Court?
- Je: I’ll try because the last time I asked, it was being repainted. If not there, I’ll ask CHK or Dilprep.
- Howie: Look for an alternative date if ever.
- Howie: With attendance, Schoolympics becomes a problem and at the same time, we can’t exactly blame the players for backing out.
- Josh: One thing we can do is share the pub much earlier so they block the date off.
- Joaquin: We can make it like SIKLAB so we can have a lot of pakulos so people really bock it off.
- Je: DILGAMES happens on all Mondays so it becomes a conflict.
- Ian: Let’s just time the Schoolympics futsal where it’s not conflict with DILGAMES.
- Howie: Okay, BRA please ask your players if they’re okay with April 30 so we know whether to push through. Je, release a pub of DILGAMES
9. Sidhi Recruitment Updates c/o Paje (5 mins)
- Paje: No one replied yet. As for Elain, I will interview her this week. I asked her if she’ll be willing to move forward. Are you guys g with diego? the biggest concern is whether or not he can handle the responsibility.
- Javi: Diego says he can contribute in Sidhi and spend time in it. Since he keeps saying how much he wants to invest in it, I think he can take on the job. He’s even written some articles already.
- Paje: I haven’t talked to Elain so can we table the decision for next GA?
- Howie: Okay.
- Paje: I also have a SEAC concern. On April 12, there’s a SEAC event but there was a supposed Career Talk for SESC too?
- Iyla; It’s not on April 12 anymore.
10. Dean Selection Consultation c/o Howie (5 mins)
- Howie: According to Ma’am Kraft’s email, dean’s term is ending 3 now since it’s 3 years. A meeting was set on April 11 but it’s going to bump with the STATA Seminar and she needs SEAC and SESC there. It’s going to be a consultative meeting with the students, especially on the issues that can be forwarded to the nominee/s. We could divide and conquer since Ma’am Kraft’s time is gold.
- Ma’am Kraft’s meeting: Head office, Bets, Kevin, Josh, Je, Jolo, Iyla, Theresa, Yana, Louise
- STATA: Cams, Joaquin, Jackie, Javi, Steph
11. Emergency Protocols c/o Howie (5 mins)
- Howie: There was a false gunman threat last Econ Week. If ever something similar happens in the future, we’d get in touch with Ian who will get info fro USC since they’re in touch with the CSO. When it comes to emergency protocols, this is something we have to talk about with Ma’am Kraft. Josh, is it okay if you meet up with Ma’am Kraft?
- Bets: I just remembered that I submitted the letter we made for a dialogue with Ma’am Kraft so you can make use of that meeting.
- Iyla: BA was closed down but we weren’t and it was concerning since they said there was a threat in Malcolm and we’re nearer to them.
- Theresa: I think the reason people spread panic is because people don’t know what to do. It’s worse that people are in the place and it’s true rather than keeping people under control because it probably isn’t true. In the end, panic comes from not knowing what to do, so we should just make sure that students know what to do.
- Paje: We should bring it up with admin since it’s their obligation to think of these things. We’re not in the position to make it but rather to pressure the admin to do so.
12. Midsem Evaluations c/o Head Office (10 mins)
- Howie: It’s supposedly on April 6 but do you think we need more time to gather inputs from our constituents?
- Paje: We were choosing from April 6 or 13. The cons of having it this Friday is that there’s a 106 exam the next day. The cons of having it on April 13 is that Scavhunt is the next day but I’d rather have it on the 13th.
13. National Resource Governance Student Conference Invitation c/o Howie (5 mins)
- Howie: This is organized by PH-EITI.
- Paje: It’s a council established in 2012 by an EO signed by PNoy. It adopted the NGo as a body that would monitor data on mineral, oil extraction and nonrenewable resources.
- Howie: They release annual reports and the latest one is planned to be released through a national conference on April 18 in PICC, Pasay City. They’re inviting students to attend the National Resource Governance Student Conference on April 19, Thurs. Century Park Hotel. They’re asking for 2 students but can reach up to 6.
- Howie: We’ll be mentioning it to our 172 class too tomorrow.
14. Other Matters
- Iyla: 2 tutorials on Friday, 106 Balanquit and 102 Ravago.
- Joaquin: You can ask Josh Ambrosio for 102.
