- Reg: World News - Salvadoran woman at center of controversial abortion trial acquitted of all charges. A young rape survivor who'd been accused of inducing an abortion and previously sentenced to 30 years in prison was acquitted of all charges by an El Salvador judge Monday at the conclusion of a retrial (https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/19/americas/evelyn-hernandez-abortion-retrial-acquittal-intl/index.html?utm_source=twCNN&utm_medium=social&utm_term=link&utm_content=2019-08-19T21%3A39%3A00).
- Mikha: Local News - Ex-DENR chief Gina Lopez passes away. Former environment and natural resources secretary Gina Lopez on Monday passed away at age of 65, the ABS-CBN Corp. announced. According to the announcement, Lopez succumbed to brain cancer (https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1155030/ex-denr-chief-gina-lopez-passes-away/amp).
- Reg: UP News - UP students walk-out, UP FIGHTS BACK. Students walk out of their classes today to denounce the looming militarization in the university, following the state's intent to review the 1989 UP-DND accord. Allowing police and military forces to freely enter the university could create an atmosphere of terror inside an institution that has always been critical of the administration and its repressive policies (Source: Philippine Collegian).
- Orallo: Random News - Lakers free agency rumors: Los Angeles signing Dwight Howard is "worth the risk." Since the Los Angeles Lakers lost Demarcus Cousins due to an ACL Tear, they are interested in signing Dwight Howard. Howard was sent from the Wizards to the Grizzlies in early July. Memphis is expected to waive Howard, which would make him a free agent, and the team has reportedly already given Los Angeles permission to speak with him.
II. Core GA Evaluations - Chairperson
- Josh: Nakakatuwa yung attendance since napuno natin yung 114 and naubos yung food. Room for improvement siguro mas mabilis na presentation ng powerpoints and mas maayos na flow. Although it’s not our fault cause di nagwork yung port so we had to transfer all the presentations. I wanna say thank you to all those who came and at least lahat ng core nakapagpresent for those not present. One more thing, I wanna fix the food para mas incentivized. And the room is free naman so maybe we can allocate the room budget for that. So comments? Suggestions? Kahit isa?
- Je: Question for next ganun ulit or iba? (ambagan for food)
- Josh: We can decide. But okay lang ba sainyo yung ambagan or hassle siya? So we know what to do next time,
- Je: Did you have budget allocation for food?
- Josh: For room lang. Na kay Jaro siya, we did not use it. Maybe we can reallocate it
- Reg: We can reallocate talaga right
- Josh: Yes.
- Pat: Yung sinabi sakin, since free yung room ng elections, tatanggalin yung budget for rooms.
- Josh: pero what we read in the minutes you can re-allocate talaga. Siguro I can subsidize the food a bit. Using the room funds. Is that an okay for system for you guys?
- Je: For the food siguro baka something na puwede hatiin (like spaghetti, pizza) since burgers you can’t really divide per piece siya
- Josh: Sige
- Maui: baka we can also sense the next time what time and date na available sila. Since majority of them were the freshies (who went).
- Josh: Marami actually juniors.
- Maui: Yung mga older ones lang siguro
- Josh: All senior core except Cyril had class kasi. But we will sense next time.
III. Freshie Elections Updates - Sophomore Batch Representatives
- Pat: Sabi ni Sir Ben ng comp lab, August 28 yung tentative date since wala pa rin hanggang ngayon yung assessment. Sabi niya “we will announce the final schedule on August 23/26”
- Je: Deadline for UFC reps are on August 22 eh
- Pat: Well may complete list pero hindi alam kung officially enrolled sila
- Josh: Di ba may class list yung classes?
- Pat: Di pa kasi tagged as assessed
- Josh: Its weird lang kasi na you’re already in class alaganaman na ipull out nila. And lahat kasi ng election this week for all councils
- Andi: If we go with the batch list idea, we check those taking econ 11 then look for those not
- Pat: feel ko di puwede cause of data privacy
- Je: Hindi kasi puwede since wala pang assessment of the form 5s. The reason why other colleges were able to forward their name of their reps cause of the method like appointment siguro or they hold their elections differently. Our elections kasi is similar with the USC elections. Before kasi it was just manual (around 2 years ago), we were counting ballots. I don’t think we can wait until assessment is finalized.
- Josh: We can get the list naman from 101 but they will remove those not enrolled.
- Andi: Will they not give out the class?
- Josh: For example kasi, if you’re in econ 11 you can still get pulled out from the class if you’re not enrolled.
- Je: Question lang, kailan niyo icoconsult si ma’am magno?
- Pat: Si tita Joyce lang cause she’s assigned sa freshies.
- Je: Can we try to consult to see what action steps we can take? Since in other colleges wala talaga ring Form 5s. If we anchor the elections to this, di talaga magagawa yung elections. Since sir Benny said that, baka next week yung assessment but according to USC wala pang final date yung assessment.
- Pat: We’ll email ma’am Magno nalang muna then update you guys.
- Josh: I think he’s just saying na get the list na in 101 since matatagalan tayo if we wait for assessment. I was suggesting kay Pat del na maybe we can suspend the consti since lagpas tayo sa date and technically we’re not following it na (freshie elections being held 2 weeks after school starts). Does anyone want to move or suspend the consti?
- Je: Question lang, because of that we are suspending the provision in the consti since it states na enrolled?
- Josh: No kailangan na may ma-elect na this week.
- Maui: Question, di ba kasi unang nag-reg freshies? Do they have a list of post-advised list?
- Andi: they do but it’s not “official”
- Je: technically those availing of free tuition is not enrolled in UP
- Andi: I move to suspend Art. X Sec. 2 that states that “the elections of the SESC shall be held simultaneously with the UPD-USC elections. However, the election of the 2 Freshman Batch Representatives and election of the Graduate School Representative, provided the council chooses to do so under Sec 2 of Art. IV of this Constitution, shall be held at most 2 weeks after that start of classes for the first semester of the Academic Year.” given the delay of the assessment.
- *Zion arrives at 5:54 pm*
- Josh: there is a motion to suspend Art. X Sec. 2 given the delay of assessment. Who will second?
- Vina: I second the motion.
- Josh: No one rejects. The motion has passed.
- Maui: Question, what’s our action for freshie elections?
- Pat: I will email ma’am magno muna since pumayag siya na to hold elections kahit di tagged. Manual nga lang
- Reg: Is it stated in the consti na dapat enrolled yung freshies to vote?
- Josh: Yes there’s another article.
- Jv: It’s in the SEEB constitution
- Josh: It’s not under SESC constitution kasi. Upon checking the constitution, it doesn’t say that the student has to be enrolled to vote. Ask nalang ma’am Magno if she is okay with that.
- Je: Question lang, when you and Gab handled elections, did you use manual or online?
- Andi: Yung kay vina comp lab, but kay Jaro manual.
- Je: Comp lab rin ba process since we are using the list or different?
- Josh: Puwede naman comp lab since sir benny needs the list lang naman. And we just need ma’am magno’s go signal for it to push through.
- Vina: If ma’am Magno allows, when?
- Josh: This week sana. Kahit Thursday.
- Pat: But the complab processes it in 2 days.
- Josh: So next week talaga. Next na.
IV. SAC Updates
- Mikha: First post of SE-ning last week, it was good naman. And then the next post is on Sunday. There’s one ready na for it anonymous siya. I have the sungka na today. On Friday, I will instruct core members to oversee the games and there will be 2 na on Friday. So yun
- Josh: Questions and suggestions?
- Maui: What’s your system for Sungka on Friday?
- Mikha: Since medj mahaba yung game, whole day siya for those available at a specific time. Round robin yung system niya so yun.
- Maui: Saan siya?
- Mikha: Econ back or tambayan
- Je: You may wanna modify the game like making it one round tapos bilangan na after that round since it would take long.
- Mikha: Yeah Joyce told me a faster way of doing that so okay na yun.
- Josh: Questions? Suggestions?
V. Econ Rep to the USC Updates
- Orallo: Point of order guys.
- Je: USC had the 10th GA Friday night. August 15, in PUP mandatory drug testing happened under CHED Memo. No. 18. Here sa UP the implementation has not happened yet pero may plans to implement it another way since compliance with the memo. wIt’s so easy to change the results of your drug test. UP System will have an MH program (facilities, basic staff and personnel training). The issue is funding for it and quickly lang update lang for the dorms Acacia (5th floor) will be opened at the end of august for those who don’t have dorms yet. Sa Vanguard, may area na puwedeng tulugan and they are planning to turn it to a temporary housing. Balay Kalingaw and Solaire hotels would be subsidized for those who need housing. For SFA, it’s delayed since they revamped their system. Meeting for it is next week, so if anyone needs the decision agad, please let us know. There will be revision for the code of student conduct, one of the provisions sa code is bawal freshies sa orgs, it will be coursed sa STRAW committee ng USC. Another reason why the IDs of the freshies are delayed is cause of the partnership with PayMaya. Hopefully mafinalize na siya agad para the freshies can get their IDs na. OUR naman, there was a meeting to have registration for UP BGC within their campus in their schools mismo (and not in UPD anymore). For DRW naman, USC is g with it but the action is review and refdrafting of the MC since the composition changed cause of K12. The process will seem to take awhile since by Oct. consultations will be conducted. There will be a core committee for the drafting and after consulting they will draft then the copy will be available (revised) late October or November. The goal, at the end of the year, matapos na yung new MC. Ther referendum is proposed to be during registration next year.
- Andi: Everything?
- Je: Only specific points. Just redrafting. For UFM naman, it was a miscoordination between a frat who contracted a moving company to pick up tents and it wasn’t specified what. So they picked it up late at night. Fortunately the tents are returned. Issue lang may Nawala na stuff kaya delay yung report, since UP police delayed releasing a statement. Delayed yung Org Recog. Process (OSA) since they want to have Bukluran 3.0. They want to make it automated online, eventually they will send a question sa UP email niyo. This is to confirm or verify if you are a member of the org since may cases ng ghost mems. Also, the deadline for the recog. ng org is 45 days after classes and we are approaching that na. Another update, the barangay near Philcoa, Pook Manatili, they are planning na bakuran yung front nay un but the back is a creek. The perception is that it’s a way to get them out there (since they can’t get out). Eventually, baka we can support this. For SWANS, the ID application thanks daw since we passed early, there will be special UPCAT for PWDs. If you want to volunteer Oct. 5 siya let me know lang. Pep Rally naman on August 30 if you guys wanna go. And an update for the Lumad Schools, they are staying here. For EdRes and ASEO, please note if you are part of the Learn GA, August 22 dapat siya (for ACLE accreditation). Last na, sa CSWCD, anti-student yung dean nila as in out right red tagging of their students. The problem with that is, part of their curriculum is them going out so sobrang laki ng problem since you have a dean who red tags you and you have these events for your studies. Very controlling talaga. Before they hold an event, the dean has to approve their speakers. I just wanna share, it’s a scary thought to have everything filtered by something and yun yung pinapahiwatig ng mob na if we allowed military presence here, that’s what they would do. They would filter what we learn here. It’s stepping on our academic freedom. We learn a lot here and if we have any bodies that prevent that, it’s gonna be problematic and it’s something we have to fight against. Yun lang naman.
VI. Acquaintance Party Updates - Internals
- *Maui goes to the restroom*
- Giselle: So, for the program, medj tentative pa to’ since the program team they prepared 9 mini-games and 4 main games for the batch. Tentative siya since we want to finish early (by 9) we’re not sure kung ilang games yung lalaruin. They will make a rough prog. Flow. The plan kasi is we will prepare almost all materials for the game para if may sobra sa time, we can play another game. Materials needed- we will try not to buy anything if we do need to buy yung wala talaga mahahanap sa house. For the batch activity before akwe, we changed it since Kelly overlooked na there’s not school tomorrow and its har to shoot and edit tomorrow and its hard to send Thursday afternoon. The SESC page will post nalang the posters in an album then like and share contest. And then, the main problem is food kasi with the freshies it’s hard for me to estimate how much attendees for akwe. Yung pinaka max estimate ko is 100. Are you guys okay with that? Or bring it down pa?
- Klause: Tansiya ko more than half kasi freshies.
- Josh: marami rin kasi batch nila Vina. Yung GPAK natin, 100 lang yun.
- Giselle: If ever, the best food we can get is lutong bahay since wala naming place na mura. And I asked them rice and ulam nalang. And for rice, kahit ako nalang magproprovide.
- Josh: Nagtaas ba yung budget?
- Giselle: Di pa narereallocate. If ever, we will only pay for lumpia. If one ulam lang, 6000 na yun. Ang mangyayari, di siya individually packed. Plano ko sana, sa long table, nasa gitna yung food but di siya boodle fight. Buffet style. Pero yun nga lumalabas 1 ulam 6000 na siya.
- Josh: baka puwede tayo maglumpia ng marami. In area 2, we know someone who has lumpia that can be cut into 2 tapos mura pa. Magkano lumpia ng lutong bahay?
- Maui: 40 per head.
- Josh: Di ba we ordered lumpia per kilo
- Giselle: 1 kilo=100 pieces
- Josh: Sulitin natin yung lumpia. 300 pcs of lumpia
- Vina: Regarding the attendees, we should sense tonight or tomorrow night
- Josh: Sige try natin
- Maui: for utensils, what’s your plan?
- Giselle: I counted the one here and if kulang ill get nalang. For the games, the maximum amount of players per batch is 15 people. Then others are 10, 8. Or 4. For the flow, we don’t want cheer na sa start. If ever, we will find something to fill in the introduction. Like how to introduce the batch na di cheer. Since we are aiming 5pm start, latest na 5:45 or 6 depending on how many people are there. After the short program, we will start with the 3 minigames. Then after 1 game na round robin type na per batch. Then 3 games ulit na small, then 1 round-robin type game. We will end with the pakain.
- Josh: Feel ko if we focus on games since they bond there and I think it’s better if mas maaga yung pakain. Better nga na tanggalin yung cheer.
- Giselle: Kaya we prepared 9 games. Basta all the materials are prepared.
- Je: Question lang, what do you mean pakain earlier?
- Josh: Like we focus on the games then eat na
- Je: so assumption is by 8:30 kumakain na tayo?
- Giselle: Depends on how early we will start
- Josh: If we start at 6 I don’t think we will play for 2 hours.
- Giselle: Do you want na we will send the number of players needed per batch? Like we won’t say the game pero the number of people is revelaed
- Josh: And the time so that they can strategize
- Klause: Can you tell us the type of game? Like sports, or mental?
- Giselle: Siguro we can make a riddle or clue sa game nay un
- Josh: Or maybe you can say physical or mental lang.
- Giselle: Sige. Siguro by tomorrow na yun. Basta max 8:30 kain na.
- Vina: Who handles the freshies na?
- Giselle: Akon a kumakausap as kanila.
- Josh: For the food I think more than 100. Let’s wait for the sensing muna.
- Giselle: I just need to wait for the money first since we have 12k as council daw but my budget is 16k.
- Vina: What’s our roll as council?
- Giselle: Siguro, ill double check on the logistics since I end 3:45 and we wanna start early. If ever ill ask you guys to ingress with my core.
- Maui: Question, ano plan niyo sa finances since we need to have downpayments ready
- Josh: ayusin natin
- Je: Contingency if umulan?
- Giselle: We have na where to station.
- Josh: If umulan dapat sa bust or sa walkway. Let’s just talk about the food later. For akwe, sana lahat nandun expected. Also expected rin maghatak kayo. We can RTR rin, Giselle let’s do it Thursday and Friday morning.
VII. Other Matters
- Vina: Starting next week, may weekly BOD meetings na yung NYC (Tuesdays). I will update you guys rin with the updates. Every GA magkakaron nako ng updates,
- Andi: I emailed ma’am magno on the parking lines and she replied “Ok.”. Ill double check nalang with the proposal and time table. I fixed the banyo problem rin. CSSP SC contacted Jaro on the mental health survey for psych they asked if we could distribute it so yun
- Maui: first econ @ work is Sept. 16 ill sense muna if they have demand for it.
- Orallo: Ito yung ginawa ni sheena dati na lanyard, and this is what I made for the ID nametag. We’ll vote on it nalang sa group ill post it.
