- Maui: World News - Brazil rejected millions in Amazon aid. Hours later, Bolsonaro hinted a reversal. The Brazilian government walked back its rejection of $20 million in foreign aid to help fight fires blazing in the Amazon rainforest on Tuesday, saying it would take international aid after all. Acceptance of the funds, however, would hinge on the Brazilian government being able to administer the aid, clarified presidential spokesperson Otavio Rego Barros (https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/27/americas/brazil-rejects-g7-aid-amazon-intl/index.html).
- Je: Local News - PH 3rd highest in number of measles cases (WHO). Fake news about vaccines, along with the Dengvaxia controversy, has taken a heavy toll on babies and toddlers in the country as measles cases have tripled and the number of deaths from the preventable disease has quadrupled over the past seven months, according to health authorities. Records from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that some 80 percent of the deaths due to measles in the Philippines in the first half of the year were children aged 1 to 4 and infants below 9 months (https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1157867/ph-3rd-highest-in-number-of-measles-cases-who).
- Steph: UP News - A public dialogue on the issue of military presence in our campuses. The UP Walkout that transpired last August 20 was a testament to the militant and active nature of the Iskolar ng Bayan. Unwanted noise disturbed the university, but it was reciprocated with the widespread uproar of the university's calls for genuine academic freedom and the end to attacks on the youth (https://www.facebook.com/166231563437226/posts/2447705238623169/).
- Giselle: Random News - 12 records that were set at the 2019 VMAs. Taylor Swift's "You Need to Calm Down" won video of the year, four years after she took the award for "Bad Blood" (featuring Kendrick Lamar). Swift is just the fourth artist to win video of the year twice as a lead artist. She follows Eminem, Rihanna and Beyoncé. Two other artists—Missy Elliott and Lamar—have achieved the feat if you count both lead and featured credits (https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/awards/8528396/12-records-2019-vma-awards).
- *Vina goes to the bathroom*
- *Klause goes downstairs to get adaptor*
II. Acquaintance Party Evals - Internals
- Giselle: Strengths - finished on time since the plan was to eat by 8pm. Even if we started late, naayos pa rin siya. Yung expenses are mainly food and lights lang. We maximized the materials for the games para di na gumastos for materials. There are also new and creative games which were different from last year. Batches were able to bond rin, also during the pakain, they were together. It gave them a chance to get to know the other shiftees. Maayos yung lights and sounds since madali sila kausap. They agreed agad to move the lights out and they also set up early.
- Improvement - proper explanation of the games and rules. It’s on our part rin dapat we foresaw the contentions since nagiging cause of delay yung reklamo and contentions. Even though konti yung games, we saw naman people enjoyed and played. Also kahit walang cheer, masaya naman na focused siya on games.
- Mario: Sa waste management lang, even if we put a trash bag sa side, not everyone threw their trash properly like they were forcing it sa trashcan sa lounge.
- Josh: First, medyo magulo overall since there were drunk people. Para sa akin, I didn’t say not to drink but I was expecting na responsible tayo. There were some that were responsible but there were some na disruptive na who weren’t listening and dun sa core and there, naawa ako at that time since magulo. Also, yung class on going, di natin na forsee since di naman sinabi ni Ma’am but it should be our role as council rin.
- *Je arrives at 4:42pm*
- Josh: Yung third, I think we have to congratulate Giselle and her core since they were all hands on. Walang nakatunganga. Yun lang naman for me.
- Vina: Gusto ko i-commend yung batch reps since the hatak grabe. Kala ko nga kulang food eh. Good job sa batch reps. I think the block heads idea for the freshies it was good rin since they were mobilized properly. Tapos, I think opportunity nalang na magaanda yung surprise ng new games but there’s a trade-off na maraming magrereklamo for sure. So I guess, we shouldn’t do that practice.
- Pat Del: Strength na kahit lasing yung mga tao wala namang na injure. And may contingency naman yung internals.
- Andi: Just to add to what vina said, it was hard nga na surprise yung games since it added sa time. Its better siguro na BRA knows para can prepare.
- Reg: I wanna commend Giselle and her core since successful yung Akwe. Minor lang na weakness, masyado lang marami na games. Pero maganda if may pahinga or pause. Like during agawan panyo walang nanood na fresheis and sophies. Maybe cause it rained, pero it should be our task as council na kung may mga ganun hilahin natin sila ulit.
- Josh: That’s it? Just so you know ang daming pictures its super nice. Nice one Giselle!
III. Filipino Games Evals - SAC
- Mikha: For Sungka, nagging effective siya to promote the game and Filipino culture since people were forced how to play. Its either they know how to play or they had to learn it. Someone also commented na it was a nice initiative since di naman masyadong kilala yung Sungka as a game, especially na college tayo. Downside lang siguro it was short since we edited the mechanics na wala na yung sunog part. Puwede sana more Filipino games pero we’ll save it for SE Games. Very proactive rin yung core ko so yun.
- Josh: Any more questions? And comments?
- Mario: I don’t think it’s a con na iniba yung structure since people still got to play kahit the essence of the game. Kahit for example, si Trei, he didn’t really know how but it was easy to pick up.
- Reg: I want to commend Mikha tapos her core too. Since maganda yung kinalabasan ng everything. I think a suggestion dapat may portion lang sa Akwe for Filipino games para mas Makita and mas maraming sumama. Dagdag ko lang, maganda sa core ngayon lahat empowered and lahat na-uutilize yung core.
IV. Situationer Updates - Econ Rep. to the USC
- Je: First of all, it’s not You can Sit With Us na yung title it’s the Situationer nalang. As we discussed during plansem, it’s a casual discussion. Its gonna be me and my core who will be doing the talk. We will approach tambayans, the back, etc. I’m not requiring everyone to do this pero I hope na if you’re there when we discuss you also join the discussion since it’s helpful and important you know what’s happening. What I want us to gain sa Situationer is the possible questions of the constituents. I am planning na 5 mins yung length. Next, just a run through of the outline. It starts with an opener, ask them if they’re g to talk with what’s happening around UPSE, UP and the Philippines. If they’re not g, tell them it’s okay but encourage them to look through the GA minutes so that they can see the updates. After they agree, begin with UPSE issues. The 3 main issues are: 4-sem Rule, Junior Rule, and Academic Integrity. The first 2 ay yung lagi pinaguusapan and the last one it’s recent since we need to talk about what’s happening sa BOR, etc. Next is UPD and UP System, issues include free tuition, dormitory slots, mandatory drug testing, UPD Magna Carta, Org Recog. Process, Militarization, FRB. Its to your discretion what to discuss since we had a DG Decon na on FRB and Magna Carta, so you can talk about campus militarization. For the Philippine news, I included free tuition, mandatory ROTC, workers rights. I didn’t add more issues since these are the issues I feel na mas needed in Econ since di masyado nababalitaan masyado here in Econ and di natatackle yung Econ Perspective. At the end, ask them if they have questions and if they want clarification. If you’re not sure how to answer their questions, just tell them na babalikan sila sa GA minutes. Then finally, thank them for their time and for any more questions just approach the SESC. The goal of the Situationer for me is not visibility and it might be something that happens more (might be extended) so hindi siya time bound since the issues are hot naman right now.
- Andi: Since there are a lot of topics, how long will it be if we talk per person?
- Je: You can talk to a group naman
- Andi: If it’s longer kasi than 5 mins, they lose interest na
- Je: That’s why it’s 5-7 mins. Discuss the topics to your discretion like for older UPSE students you can pass on the 4-sem rule and junior rule, but focus on the news like contractualization, etc. You don’t need to give the complete information, but you give them a brief idea of what’s happening. Since if they wanna know everything, they will find a way to read more on it. The point is to bring out the issues not tackled much for this Situationer. For free tuition, sana you ask their thoughts rin on it.
- Vina: Suggestion ko lang, it’s good practice to go around with a visual aid so that they can see the data and everthing.
- Je: I’ll see if I can draft that (a nice looking handout) or something like what we had sa DG Decon. If ever by Friday na siya nakalaminate.
- Josh: This isn’t just Econ. Rep. core ah. We need to do this as a council since we have this branding externally na we should take part in talking about these issues.
- Je: Yes that’s true. If you feel like you’re not confident alone, just reach out to me and I’ll guide you. It’s also nice since we get a feel on how to get information from them through consultations.
- Josh: I suggested na next week na yung situationer since tomorrow na siya.
- Reg: Tanong ko lang, baka puwede rin magsituationer sa council.
- Je: I can do it next week. It was really my plan I was just thinking kung paano siya atakihin in a balanced and using the econ. Perspective.
- Vina: Gaano siya katagal? As in yung period?
- Je: Flexible kasi siya. Supposedly dapat bukas siya magstastart, then we were gonna extend till Friday and if kaya the next week. I want it to be a habitual thing kasi so I’m not setting a cap but there will be a time na magiiba yung content niya.
- Reg: Can it be based on the number of people?
- Je: I’m not formally tracking but ill make a tracker. I have no quota, but if you were able to talk to people just note it.
- Reg: I think its better to count how many people attended just to check. Kasi nung Magna Carta DG, we didn’t track naman. Para lang mas efficient.
- Je: It’s good to have that practice cause we’re output based at the end of the day. Regarding Josh’s suggestion to move it to next week on the basis na ayusin yung visual aid and flow, im g naman. For orallo, pa-adjust nalang yung pub so kahit sa weekend siguro.
V. M&P Updates
- Orallo: so tapos na yung ID natin. *shows ID* I just need the signatures of some people. Send niyo nalang sa facebook. The bulletin board it looks like our tidbits rin. We will shoot for that hopefully next week. Magkakaphoto shoot tayo. End of September dapat tapos na siya. Plano ko elepants yung suot natin para mas approachable yung dating natin. Yung ID pala 50 pesos each so okay na yun and ambagan nalang for the photo shoot.
- *Reg and Pat Del goes down to get food for council*
- Josh: Ang gulo natin today ha.
- Mario: point of order.
VI. Opportunities Portal Updates - MARC
- Maui: Nagusap na kami ni Orallo and Vina, mamomove yung integration sa website September the latest. Yung gagawin now, yung suggestion ni vina na slides muna and ipopost- seminar opportunities. Yun lang naman.
- Vina: Kasi yun nga, seminar opportunities ipopost natin by the end of august (internal). Di pa siya sa website.
VII. MARC Updates
- Maui: Econ @ Work sa BSP- we will renting a bus care of UPSEAA and in case may exam during that time, Collette, my core member will be in charge. For partnerships, 3 partnerships next week. Sept.7- Service Project call time is at 7am. Sa Engg. Court. If youre ecosoc, sign up for counts. We will be setting up a booth. We have 3 options, ball in the bucket, tin can toss, or ring toss. So we have to decide what booth and dapat recyclable yung materials. Example is for the ring toss we can use bote ng coke.
- Josh: Feel ko yun can nalang yung atin since madali.
- Maui: istastack lang siya tapos kailangan ma knock down siya. We can decide tonight naman
- Josh: If you guys have suggestions comment nalang.
- Maui: For tatak Peyups shirts, I will post sign ups (10am-4:30pm). For the shirts its 499 each and for each sale may 50 pesos tayo na contribution. Last partnership yung MBS recyclables fair, Sept. 4-6 siya, we need to get 5 contributions and 15 shares and likes. We can get attendees from them as an exchange for that.
- Jv: We get money di ba
- Maui: yeah we get money for every kilo of trash we have. Yun lang naman
- Josh: We need to talk about if required yung SP.
- Josh: Will talk nalang with head office if required ito.
- Klause: downstairs pala may mga reps from Greenwich looking for partnerships for events.
- Maui: Okay
VIII. Alumni Homecoming Updates - Chairperson
- Josh: This will be on September 7 also. Usually we are ushers and registration and required yung council dito. Next week, I’ll meet with tita Rose with Maui. Puwede rin kayong sumama. After that, I will update you sa GA the details. I’m expecting na everyone goes just tell me or jv if may problem. Council shirt required that time. The names I will submit is everyone here in council. It’s fun naman pinapakain tayo and more.
- Zion: Saan to’?
- Josh: Audi lang.
- Je: I don’t know who to remind it to pero dapat may merch tayo. One feedback kasi sobrang sold out yun. Ako nagman ng booth last year and they always look for maroon merch. Also sana may paper bag tayo to give with it so that they can carry something with it.
- Josh: Any more questions? Usually you guys can leave at 7 or 8. Pero you guys can leave late.
IX. Other Matters
- Andi: There’s a dear straw problem lang an hour ago about the aircon in SE 127 na di na gumana after the aircon problem. I submitted na a letter to admin regarding the parking and the tambayan leakage, I was gonna follow up to Tita Tet but she wasn’t there. So isasabay ko nalang bukas to. For Tuklas (Sept.18-20), 9 confirmed NGOs and 6 org partners. Heads up lang, yung know your rights campaign series begins tonight. 3 pubs on Magna Carta, Freshie Recruitment Ban, and 4-sem rule so please share nalang.
- Reg: ASEO GA, 4 onwards siya on Friday (most probably 5:15). Remind ko lang, 4 nalang remaining for the sem. May consequence nalang kung di niyo nacomplete yung 2 required.
- Josh: Check the attendance for LCC and ASEO GA.
- Reg: Puwede yung akin, if di nagawa, may papagawa ako. Pag di nagawa tsaka siya suspension. Parang make-up task siya.
- Vina: Question sa LCC GA, di ba counted yung nominations for SR?
- Josh: It’s not an LCC GA tho.
- Zion: Suggestion lang na minor, feel ko its important that we gather the feedback of the audience for example like iflaflash yung QR code sa screen tapos ididirect sila sa eval form. Its important lang to know what they’re thinking rin.
- Josh: Mahirap lang kasi if post event tapos magagather. Mahirap logistically.
- Zion: kaya iflaflash lang yun. Bitly lang yun.
- Josh: That’s a good idea na bago umalis.
- Zion: Mas madali sa talk kasi iflaflash siya. If on ground event, we can just print it and we can post it somewhere visible to people (QR code).
- Josh: We can do that for midsem evals nga. Ang solid nun. Last, mikha.
- Mikha: Nagsend yung college of Eduk na partnership proposal for dilgames. Papoll nalang sila if may interested sa mga sports. Tas if you guys know people who are interested approach them na.
