STATA/R Refresher Evals c/o Senior Batch Representatives
Shin: Here’s our SWOT analysis for the STATA/R Refresher.
STRENGTHS:
- We were able to conduct sensing two weeks before the date.
- We were able to consider the needed experience of the speaker for the talk.
- He was able to tacklemostof he topics asked for by the batch
- We were able to consider how this event had minimal technical difficulties from the speaker’s side. From the start of his talk to the end, walang naging difficulties.
- We were able to record the meeting for future reference of the batch.
WEAKNESSES:
- One weakness could be that the refresher coincided with multiple events that happened in the same day.
- October 19 was also very jampacked kasi sa umaga may NYC Orientation and may P&G seminar rin scheduled on that day. We had to move the talk due to the availability of speaker. He said he was available 1-4 PM lang that’s why we had to talk to JC to have the P&G event moved. Buti na lang nagawan ng paraan so students can attend both events.
- He didn’t get to discuss time regression kasi a lot of time is needed to discuss it. A lot of our batchmates used time regression din for our thesis.
- One of the attendees said na most of the topics were too advanced for thesis related commands. He gave us really PhD level commands kaya medyo sayang.
OPPORTUNITIES:
- Next time we can separate Stata and R sessions para we can allocate ample time for both.
- We can try tapping the speaker again kasi he told us that he wants to give back to Econ.
- We’re happy that our speaker was really able to reach out. Binigay niya ‘yong gmail niya if any of us have any Stata/R questions. He really gave everything to help.
THREATS:
- Those who watch the zoom recording might not be able to understand it. So those who watch it might have to rewatch it again and again para ma-gets talaga nila.
DEBATE 101 Evals c/o Education and Research Councilor
Emman: Looking at the evaluation forms, okay ‘yong content and very informative ‘yong talk. The speakers were also very engaging kasi may ganito talaga silang event for high school students kaya sanay sila magbigay ng talk na ganito. Maganda na we finished on time, actually 5 minutes before the expected end time, so sakto talaga ‘yong execution. UPDS is really happy because of the turnout for the entirety of the event. The audience was also relly participative and okay raw ‘yong hosting according to Debate Society.
What ended up happening was that isa lang ‘yong ginamit nila na powerpoint. In terms of engagement of the speakers, the way the talk was structured made it hard for the audience to participate apart from asking questions. Lastly, may lack of one method for sending questions kasi may mga questions na sine-send sa hosts at may sine-send rin sa speakers.
As opportunities, we can have more advanced topics and more interactive activities in future talks, especially since UPDS is considering partnering again with us in the future.
Another one is the scheduling of the event. Mahirap kasi if Saturday kasi baka may Saturday classes or the students are tired na because of the week. Lastly, once the Debate Society starts with their app process next sem, medyo magiging irrelevant na ‘yong topics na ‘to. So maybe we can proceed with more advanced topics kasi mako-cover na sa app process nila ‘yong basics.
I would just like to add na as part of my plans for Acad, ilalagay na rin ‘yong webinar sa acad kit for future reference.
Siguro magpapa-poll na lang ako mamaya and first five to vote can be counted for tomorrow’s event.
Edres Updates + Finlit Talk c/o Education and Research Councilor
Emman: Finlit. Yesterday we released the main pub for Get (Fin)lit! So, that’s on the October 24th from 4-5:30 PM, shorter siya by 30 minutes than Debate 101. Two speakers lang kasi siya.
NYC updates. Reminder lang to please do your pub quotas and DPs. To recap, you just have to find three people who will react and share ‘yong mga ilalagay natin na required pubs for the quotas. They have to be non-UP. If UP naman, sana hindi from UPD. Ideally sana high school students sila. Shin and Mario please do your DPs and follow the instructions sa group.
Statement for UP Pride. Pa-update na lang ako kay Jaro. Question ko lang for everyone, usually kasi ‘yong statement natin just comes with a DP change to a pride version of the logo, tapos sa caption ilalagay ‘yong statement natin. Okay ba tayo sa ganoon?
Andi: For me, it’s okay kasi we have to change our logo talaga. If we have another pub, what are we going to put in it rin? We already have a logo na rainbow sa drive.
Jaro: As far as the partnership is concerned naman, feeling ko okay rin naman ‘yon. To clarify, hindi naman required to change the logo. Ang requirement lang is to release a statement. Until now, hindi pa ako binabalikan ng contact for UP Pride. As I told you Emman, definitely within the week naman I would be able to update you. Pero icla-clarify ko na lang rin, kasi I think they’re not strict naman sa specific date. They’re just requiring us to release a support statement.
Shin: Motion to extend by 2 minutes.
Jaro: I second the motion
Shin: Napansin ko kasi na may quota for TLs/Facis and may separate quota for Council naman. What’s the difference between the two?
Eman: I guess same lang naman ‘yong mga pubs na ilalagay for both. So, I think if na-fill up mon a ‘yong isang quota you can just fill up the other tracker na lang.
Jaro: Emman, question lang. For the NYC DP, kalian ‘yong scheduled blast niya?
Emman: Hindi pa nila ako ini-inform with regards to that kasi I think tinatapos pa ‘yong pag-edit ng DPs.
Jaro: Reminder lang na ‘yong DP natin for UP Pride required na until end of the month up ‘yong DP na ‘yon. Buti sana if November pa ‘yong DP blast for NYC.
Mitch: Scheduled na October 31 ‘yong sa NYC, so if hanggang end of the month pa ‘yong U Pride baka pwedeng pakiusapan na lang.
Jaro: Thanks for that information, Mitch.
Andi: Anymore questions? Thanks Emman!
STRAW Updates c/o STRAW-Sec Councilor
Third: Okay, so first of all, I’d like to thank everyone for supporting the release of “Psyching Yourself Up for the Midterms.” Hopefully students were able to get something useful from the contents of the pub, especially now na super different na ng learning environment and setup.
For Dear STRAW naman, as of now, walang new grievances. I just checked. So, what’s left of our grievances is the ones about Econ 131 from last week pa. Just to inform the body, I’ve already talked to the council members who are part of the class, namely Mitch, Haqq, Jaro, and Yas. I have tapped Yas to be the one to communicate to Sir regarding the concerns of the class as a batch rep. I suggested that she encourage discussion na lang with her classmates through online means, pero she suggested to do it na lang using google forms ksi she’s worried that other students might not participate actively. This is fine with me naman. The rationale behind this is that whatever decision or proposal that will be raised to Sir should be something that the whole class agrees to. We can’t really choose what concerns to raise to Sir kasi there are valid concerns rin naman regarding course requirements and how it could be made harder depending on how the professor acts on the concerns. Yas told me naman that her classmates are answering it na. I asked her to summarize everything na lang tapos send it to their GC. If walang contentions, maybe she can raise it na to the prof para magawan ng paraan. Maybe there could be a consultation between the prof and his students. Rest assures, I’ll keep you guys updated naman.
Andi: Thank you, Third!
Partnership Proposals c/o Ways and Means Councilor
Jaro: Mayroon akong announcement. So kinausap ko si Andi two days ago, I told her na my teammates and I are struggling to maintain the partnerships kasi sabay-sabay na sila and nagmo-monitor rin kami ng donation drive. I have decided to have a cap na for the active partnerships for UP SESC. Kasi right now, 13-14 ‘yong active partnerships natin and mahirap talaga kasi 5 lang kaming nagmo-monitor. We’ve decided to have it limited to 10. Right now, we’re just finishing ‘yong mga patapos na na proposals and moving forward, maga-apply na ‘yong limit na 10. Mayroong dalawang partnership proposals na binigay during the week.
On behalf of BRA, for our donation drive, after 1 week mayroon na tayong 19k and may hinihintay pa na 1250 mula sa isang org, so technically, 20k na na-collect natin which is 1/5th of our goal. We will be releasing an update rin. I’d like to thank the M&P Councilors for always making the pubs.
To inform council na rin, ‘yong isa nating partner, PPE, required us to participate in their DP blast pala. Unfortunately, late na ako nasabihan. Don’t worry, you won’t have to participate in the DP blast. My core members will participate in the DP blast primarily because may requirement na ‘yong UP Pride na hanggang October dapat ‘yong UP.
Andi: Question lang for UP Pride, do we still need to attend events?
Jaro: I have clarified this with the representatives kasi if you check the MOA, may option to either send 7 participants to the equality talks or 3 attendees to the opening of UP Pride, which will be held sa UPD mismo. I don’t want to require any of us to go to the campus because of the pandemic. So I think it’s better if 7 attendees since sa FB live naman siya gagawin. Rest assured, I will be updating you about the events of UP Pride 2020 this weekend.
Other Matters
Mitch: Thank you to everyone who went to the P&G open house this Monday.
Andi: Reminder na lang rin that we’ll be having our internal evals. Withregards to the date for our meeting to discuss the results, magkaka-poll na lang for that. Most likely it’s going to be sometime during the reading break.
Third: Of course, since may internal evals. We will also be having external evals. Batch reps, your role in this will be very important kasi you’re going to have to follow up with your batchmates constantly to make sure that they’ve answered the forms na. If onti lang rin kasi sumagot, we’re not really sure if accurate ba ‘yong results or effective siya in gauging our performance. I’m going to be setting a quota per batch and I’ll be coordinating with you for that within the week. Expect the external evals forms to be released by Friday or Saturday.
Jaro: Mayroon tayong x-deals from Amway Philippine and they’ll be giving energy drinks that we can donate to our chosen beneficiary sa donation drive. Ang problem lang is that we need to get the drinks from their office talaga. I’ve talked to the contact person and pwede naman raw siya ipadala na lang within Metro Manila. Take note na lang that kung kanino mapapadala ‘yong thing. To those council members in Metro Manila, specifically in Arnaiz ave., Makati, would it be okay for you to pick the x-deals up from their office or ipadala na lang sa inyo?
Kyla: When can the x-deals be received?
Jaro: I will have to arrange it pa by coordinating with Amway.
