- Pat: World News - Hong Kong protesters march to US consulate to call for help from Trump. The march began in the Chater Garden public park in Hong Kong's business district before heading to the consulate as part of the 14th straight weekend of public demonstrations in the Asian financial hub. In a letter which protesters planned to presented to consulate officials, the group calls for the passing of the proposed "Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act 2019" by the US Congress (https://cnnphilippines.com/world/2019/9/8/Hong-Kong-protests-US-Consulate.html).
- Vina: Local News - Hontiveros: Duterte vow, Palace clarification on SOGIE bill show ‘policy confusion.' MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte and Malacañang's differing statements on the chief executive's stand on a measure seeking to protect the LGBT community from discrimination shows government's "policy confusion," Sen. Risa Hontiveros said Wednesday. Duterte on Tuesday said he would certify as urgent the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity or Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill, adding that he would do whatever would make the LGBT community happy (https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/09/11/19/hontiveros-duterte-vow-palace-clarification-on-sogie-bill-show-policy-confusion).
- Cami: UP News - Protests greet Irene Marcos at UP play. MANILA, Philippines — The presence of a member of the Marcos family at the university that has become synonymous with the struggle against the dictatorship did not sit well with members of the University of the Philippines (UP) community. Students and faculty staged a protest on Friday night at the university’s Palma Hall in Quezon City after Irene Marcos-Araneta, daughter of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, was spotted attending the opening night of the latest production of Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (DUP) -- https://www.philstar.com/nation/2019/09/08/1949873/protests-greet-irene-marcos-play.
- Jaro: Random News - Mega Magazine Founder Sari Yap Dies. MANILA -- Sari Yap, the founder of fashion magazine Mega, has passed away on Monday, September 9. "Just as the heavens are draped in an overcast of gray, with rains threatening to fall as if it were tears above, it is with a heavy heart we mourn the passing of our founder and guiding light, Sari Yap, who peacefully joined our creator at 2:07 a.m. today, in the presence of her family who survives her," the magazine said on its Facebook page on Monday (https://news.abs-cbn.com/life/09/09/19/mega-magazine-founder-sari-yap-dies).
- Je: DUP has released an apology statement already regarding Irene Marcos’ attendance. I wanna add lang din na may sinign na bill sa Duterte na UP can sell the land sa may KNL to the QC government.
II. Chairperson Reminders
- Josh: 2 reminders lang naman. First, hindi nakakatuwa yung ugali natin during GAs for me. I’m not strict naman I’m nice. I just get disturbed na people aren’t listening or not aware with what’s happening. When I was first year I’d lay down and what not and I’d get called out. But then I don’t think calling out is effective. But please don’t take advantage of the kindness I’m giving. Let’s just be more sensitive about the updates and evals given. Also, second, if may post, please comment and react and read it. So that when students ask you know what to answer them. I’m not mad, I’m just reminding you guys since it’s not a nice image na di aware yung council sa mga nangyayari. So I hope na next time di masyado disruptive kayo during GAs. Yung lang naman.
III. Tuklas Updates - STRAW
- Josh: 10 NGOs confirmed, and 24 org partners also confirmed (9 nalang waiting for the MOA). Tables and chairs are secured. Requesting nalang for parking. Partnership pub will be released on the 14th and main on the 16th. BRA please disseminate nalang the pubs. Ecosoccers have 1 count. She’s still thinking if council will have a shift since her core naman will be included.
IV. Dialogue with Sir Agpaoa Updates - Chairperson
- Josh: So yesterday Reg, JV, Giselle, Jaro, and I went and actually all we talked about was mentioned by Je last week. Yung bago lang naman yung email blast and they will do this for announcements. Yung ACLE naman, inform all ASEO orgs na if they want to hold ACLEs message na Steph Legazpi and to put na rin the venue. And yung freshie recruitment ban is actually an anti-freshie induction ban, it’s just a more appropriate term pero same sentiments lang na prinoprotect yung freshies. Pinagusapan rin yung suspensions, he wants to push na within a month naresolve na yung cases since anything more matatakasan yung students. Tapos yung Upsilon case clarification, 1st-altercation, 2nd-car chase. People who are involved kasi don’t wanna cooperate and they don’t wanna talk to the admin. They can’t push if no one wants to file a case. So for the altercation 2 parties naman dropped it but no one filed against the 2 parties. For the car chase, dismissed, since there’s not third party again na nagfile. So they just settled nalang (the parties involved). 3rd-abduction (twitter handler) incident, weird daw kasi since the handler was with a girl and the first thing the girl did was not go to the guard, but went to her dorm and asked where her friend is. So sir asked the guards if anyone was asking them for help wala naman daw. He also checked the cctv’s of the location, it was down naman. For sir, it’s weird also since the girl went back to the scene of the crime. The thing is, the twitter handler also does not want to cooperate with the admin. Yung leaks issue naman pinaguusapan ng OASH and there are people who are still complaining about it so they can’t move on.
- Reg: I also know na tinawag yung people involved for that.
- Josh: Yes tinawag sila. Yung student fund naman wala pang updates since kakasubmit palang ng budget proposal. Next, grad rites pala are not required, if you want to have your own you really have to shell out for it. Yun lang naman updates.
- Klause: Yung sa grad rites ba does that mean bawal magpatulong sa admin?
- Josh: ah puwede may nagtanong kasi why do you have to pay for it pero it’s okay for us.
V. EdRes Updates
- Vina: For the Decon, nagusap na kami ng core ko nung Friday, and binasa nila yung minutes last week, tapos nagraise sila ng sariling concerns. So, we changed the topic. Not about trabaho or setira since they think it’s too technical for a decon and we’re not that well versed yet. So, we thought na our topic should be Rice Tariffication law, yung kay Cynthia Villar. I gave them a spiel and I gave them a primer. Same style ng decon nung org fair pero this time during tuklas. I won’t require council to do it kami. Yun lang naman.
VI. Econ Rep. to the USC Updates
- Je: So, earlier we had evals with the core for situationer. Good point- we got to talk to people who don’t usually attend events. But one major point of improvement is that mahirap talaga icompress all issues that’s part of the situationer into 5-10 mins. There are times lang na we exceed. If umulit siya, we might just have to focus on a fewer number of issues pero babawiin nalang in terms of context. Or like a general issue that encompasses more issues. There are times rin na nagflugluctuate yung mga tao sa econ so. Sa lounge naman, it’s just kinda hard to determine if the students are from econ although okay lang naman opportunity cost lang na less econ students will be talked to. For the Econsult, this week siya ilalabas. This time kasi they should be reading through the Econcepts. Here’s the form, you can browse through it. I wanna keep it short lang since people’s attention spans are kinda short. Yung questions lang I decided to keep in yes or no format then their explanation. It’s hard kasi to remove the yes or no dichotomy when you’re faced with voting for one or the other especially when representing Econ to the USC and other bodies but of course we will consider and weigh their reasons din naman. Then there is also a part where we ask for their comments and suggestions so that we know if there is something they don’t get from the Econcepts. Last addition I added is there is a part na they will put who referred them to answered the form so it’s better to track talaga. We will also have physical forms na ipriprint. Yung quota and tracker, the number naman is 20 per person.
- Josh: Puwede per batch? Like collectively per batch?
- Reg: Actually percentage nalang
- Je: Okay so since medyo pantay yung numbers ng council in terms of batch, I’ll double check nalang what percentage and I will group the people per batch. Pero for core and myself, I’ll still make it a fixed number.
- Reg: Puwede ba isama yung ASEO?
- Je: meron sa form if may affiliation sila sa org. Pero if not from econ na org, may other na option. Regarding sa core tracker 30 naman each including me, so that’s around 150 responses (which is 3/10 of econ). Basta dito just input their names (sa tracker), and malalaman ng gsheets kung may duplication warning siya. Since by batch na siya, I will know what batch is not that responsive. Questions?
- *Orallo goes to banyo*
- Reg: Feeling ko tama yung point mo na when you are in the GASC kasi you can only say yes or no. Yung suggestion lang ni Carlos like we should put it nalang the calls (like the explanations)
- Je: I agree naman we really need to include naman the stand naman when we release our statement. Pero yun nga at the end of the day, defined talaga siya.
- Reg: Yung part na kasi na ito pansin ko it’s technical since it’s part of the law.
- Je: Yun nga mahirap sa endo since there’s no super formal definition of it. Like lawmakers are trying to define it pero walang formal definition. Even in the academe, the meaning is ambiguous.
- Josh: We can go to dean to request time before classes for rtr papayag naman siya
- Je: So he will draft a memo?
- Josh: Yes na parang to a lot time for sesc.
VII. Marketing and Alumni Relations Updates
- Maui: so Econ @ work on Monday (7am calltime) since there is a bus. So sana you guys can go and sign up nalang sa link. Tapos yung marketing, urgent lang we need to pick up sa colgate, +500 yung magpipick up sa Marikina.
- Mario: ako na pupunta
- Maui: Sige si Mario na. so 10 boxes yun and we will use it for Tuklas. Tapos yung storage, my core will take home some and I will get some and I’ll put it sa dorm. Tell us a week in advanced if you need x-deals. Tapos yun UP Rise, di naman siya partnership. So irerequire yung sept. 20 na AS protest pero not required yung luneta. So yung AS protest is on 11:30 and there is local protest actions ng 10am. Do you guys wanna do something?
- Josh: Puwede naman. Questions for maui?
- Je: When will you decide kung required yung BSP?
- Josh: Require mo nalang unless may excuse.
- Je: Is this the one in Roxas?
- Maui: Malate, Manila.
VIII. Other Matters
- Reg: Will you guys go to Luneta?
- Josh: Puwede naman ako.
- Je: 4 naman yung Luneta.
- Josh: let’s just plan it next GA.
