Haqq: World: Covid: chemicals found in everyday products could hinder vaccine
The successful uptake of any vaccine for Covid-19, a crucial step in returning a sense of normalcy after a year ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic, could be hindered by widespread contamination from a range of chemicals used in everyday products.

Small amounts of per- and polyfluoroalkyl (or PFAS) chemicals are commonly found in the bodies of people in the US, as well as several other countries. These man-made chemicals, used in everything from non-stick pans to waterproof clothes to pizza boxes, have been linked to an elevated risk of liver damage, decreased fertility and even cancer.

Emman: Local News: Robredo continues relief operations a day after 'very unpresidential' Duterte meltdown
A day after President Rodrigo Duterte insulted and maligned her in a televised address, it was business as usual for Vice President Leni Robredo as she continued her relief operations on Wednesday, November 18.

Robredo was in Ragay town in her home province Camarines Sur as early as 9 am to check on the status of evacuees, who endured the onslaught of back-to-back typhoons Rolly (Goni) and Ulysses (Vamco).

JC: UP News: The Office of the Chancellor (OC) of UP Diliman has announced that Nov. 16 to 21, 2020 is declared as a period of recovery and at this time, all classes are suspended. All faculty members are strongly urged to not require anything to their students.
The OC announcement is in compliance with the directive from the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA Memorandum No. 2020-139) declaring the aforementioned week as a recovery period in the aftermath of Typhoon Ulysses, and compassion and flexibility for affected students and extended deadline for the submission of grades as well as a reiteration of suspended academic rules.

Jaro: Random news: Live-action ‘Tom and Jerry’ film to premiere next year
The film relives the infamous rivalry between the two, which will be reignited when Jerry moves into an upscale New York hotel on the eve of “the wedding of the century.”

Chloe Grace Moretz will also appear in the film as an event planner hired by the hotel to organize the wedding. The upcoming film also stars Michael Peña, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost, and Ken Jeong. “Tom and Jerry” is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 5, 2021.

Electives 101
Rejam: Initially, we did a poll before the typhoon hit and ang naging result is that majority voted for November 30 at 5:30 pm. Unfortunately, nagkaroon ng typhoon so we had to do another sensing; poll options are synch but postponed indefinitely or asynch with vids + infographics. Nanalo ‘yong asynchronous Electives 101. We decided not to push through with the video na lang rin kasi mas hassle pa siya for M&P.

Gia: Currently, we’re coordinating with the speakers na. We’ve made a docs file and put tables there para malagay na lang nila ‘yong answers nila to the questions we have prepared for them. We’ve created a form na rin para if ever they have questions for the speakers, we can collate them and have it answered.

Andi: Nice one guys! I was going to suggest na rin to open a form.

Cami: Plano namin was that by next week, we’ll upload the first part na of Electives 101 featuring 5 speakers. Tapos sa December 4 na ‘yong next na wave. We decided to split it into five speakers each para mabigyan lahat ng electives ng highlight.

JC: Na-consider niyo ba na baka pwedeng mag-conduct kayo ng interview with them tapos i-post sa group.  I know an infographic is really good and okay rin naman sa akin if infographic, pero na-consider niyo ba ‘yong ganoon.

Cami: ‘Yong mga stuff na nasa infographic parang it’s an interview na. The content will be the same naman so baka hindi sila incentivized to watch the videos anymore.

Mitch: Yes, baka mas better if pictures na lang. Kasi baka need pa ng iba mag-take down ng notes if video ‘yong format ng Electives 101.

Haraya Updates
EJ: First of all, we’ve met with Zone 5, the photo studio for the grad shoot, 2 weeks ago. We’ve met with them once again, to discuss the dates for the shoot. The main issue with this is maraming nag-avail ng packages ng Zone 5 na ibang mga colleges or universities so most likely magkakasabay-sabay tayo sa January. We are yet to resolve that issue. WE finalized the pricing na rin. Also, we discussed the details regarding the yearbook such as add-ons for example if ever our batchmates want bigger frames, more printouts, etc.

Shin: For our sensing naman, last sensing we did was on the grad shoot. For the time frame, majority stated that they are g for January. Ayusin na lang namin ni EJ kung when sa January para maunahan na rin namin ‘yong ibang colleges. Nag-release na rin kami ng new sensing. We’re at 32 responses. We’re expecting 40 kasi that’s the same number we’ve garnered in the past. We are going to bump it na rin, we’re waiting na lang for the right moment kasi some of our batchmates have been struck by the typhoon rin.

Andi: How did you structure your Haraya committee this year?

Shin: We’re just waiting for the confirmation of Zone 5 na lang kasi humingi rin kami ng free price ’yong mga naging part ng editorial board members namin. ‘Pag final na rin ‘yon, that’s when we’ll release the committee na. Right now, for yearbook, we structured it after sa kanila Klause and Zion. We have 6 members right now. 1 for the yearbook head and then maybe for 3 for creatives and 2 for content.

EJ
: Inuna rin namin ‘yong paghanap ng members before we assigned specific roles for them.

Andi: What if we sell Sablays as a fundraiser?

Shin: RVC actually reached out to us for that and ‘yong suggestion nila was that they plan to sell early. So, sabi ko sa kanila they can go ahead and start selling na rin.

Tuklas Evals
Third: I’ll first be discussing the evals for Tuklas and then I’ll be talking about STRAW grievances.

For Tuklas evals, I’ve made a SWOT Analysis.

Strengths: One of the biggest strengths of the initiative is that we started early talaga for the prep. As early as September, we’ve had a list of target orgs and initiatives na talaga for contacting. We did this kasi there are a lot to take into account talaga like the pub break of M&P, which is warranted talaga, and Midterms month na ‘yong October. Another strength is that maayos ‘yong systems namin for contacting and following up on orgs. I guess this is kind of related na rin to the fact na we started preparations early and naging manageable siya to the point na for each week one or two emails lang ‘yong kailangan i-send ng core members ko. Big thank you to my core members for making this possible. Big thank you rin to M&P!

Weaknesses: One weakness siguro is ‘yong onting mga problems sa scheduling and pubs. There were last minute changes and revisions kasi coming from the orgs and there were some orgs na kulang talaga ‘yong information na binigay nila sa amin. Thank you to M&P for being really responsive and on top of things!

Opportunities: For next editions of Tuklas, I guess an opportunity is that mas dumarami na ‘yong mga initiatives na we can partner with. Of course this isn’t soething favorable naman kasi this means na mas maraming nangangailangan ng tulong, pero the opportunity to help is there and we’re always ready.

Threat: One threat is that super erratic ng current affairs to the point na madaling ma-subvert ‘yong mga initiatives na ihi-highlight natin. They are relevant pa rin of course pero they might not be the most pressing, we have orgs rin that we featured on Tuklas but are not currently prioritizing the initiative of theirs we highlighted because of the recent calamities. This is all understandable naman and we can help parin on these new initiatives.

STRAW Grievances. We have two recent STRAW grievances. First, we have a grievance for Econ 141. I’ve talked to the person na who sent the grievance and sinabihan ko na siya kung anong mga steps na ginawa ng council regarding that course. As you’ll remember, this is a grievance we’ve had for a long time na and we’ve coordinated with admin na with regards to this. I also said that we’re monitoring things naman and we’re always open to new grievances if ever the course becomes unbearable na.

Another grievance was raised to me through Yas. Yas messaged me and told me na may student na nagtatanong kung pwede raw ba mag-appeal sa admin to lighten the academic load. Understandable rin ‘to kasi even though nagkaroon ng suspension, some courses opted to just cram requirements na lang on the remaining time we have. This will lead to buenouts of our students talaga. To inform you guys lang, Andi has reached out to Ma’am Magno and shared the results of the text brig survey we conducted. Admin has been very approachable and proative rin when it comes to student concerns kaya it’s good that these issues are being raised para we can coordinate with admin regarding that.

Andi: For the text brig survey that was sent to Ma’am Magno, I’ll talk more on that later when I give the updates on the Standmaking GA.

Lantern Parades + Dilgames

Mario: Gusto ko lang magpasalamat sa lahat nang nag-participate sa Dilgames. We didn’t win. May isang event na na-disqualify tayo.
For lantern parade, ako ‘yong OIC. How lantern parade is going to work this year is either a small physical float or a digital one. I’m going to have a meeting with Kyla and Haqq tomorrow for that.

We just released the ECONsult. Maraming salamat BRA for disseminating it to your batchmates. We’re going to be collecting that throughout the week. It’s a good basis for standmaking sessions, there’s always ECONsult para we know how our constituents feel about certain things. BRA please inform us na lang if you think na hindi maaabot ‘yong quota. We can help you naman tap people to answer the ECONsult.

Andi: Thanks Mario! Does anyone want to add to that like do you have concepts for the Lantern? With regards to budget na lang Mario, you’ll have to talk na lang to Jaro kasi that wasn’t part of our initial budget plan.

Mario: I remember kasi na parang may sinabi si Jaro about that; na may fund, pero as much as possible ayaw kong gamitin ‘yon.

Jaro
: Mayroon ba tayong estimate Mario?

Mario: Hindi ko pa sure. For that. let me share na lang muna ‘yong napag-isipan na. Admin told us kasi na baka pwedeng i-tie in sa decorations ng UPSE ‘yong magiging concept ng lantern natin. The theme of the Lantern Parade this year is “Abot-Kamay at Abot-Tanaw: Sulong sa Bago at mas Mainam na Bukas”

Jaro: ‘Yong concept na lang, kasi iko-coordinate natin siya with UPSEAA. Usually ‘yong funds na allocated sa Lantern Parade ay from sa alumni. Baka if pwedeng may concept na tayo, as soon as possible we can coordinate it na with UPSEAA. For the past few years, they’ve been very supportive na of Econ’s Lantern.

Standmaking GA Updates
Andi: As you guys know, we’ve released ECONsult. We’ve talked with Emman and we decided that our standmaking session will be next Wednesday. I was able to talk to Ma’am Magno and she told us to have a survey regarding the opinions of the students sa mass promotion. I told her na we already have one. It was Ma’am Magno’s idea rin to add the last section regarding course grievances. We agreed that by Sunday, 5PM ise-send ko na sa kaniya ‘yong results ng ECONsult. No worries naman sa grievance kasi we didn’t require students to put their names. Ma’am Magno is going to forward it to the Dean and then they’re going to discuss it with the faculty. Also, as mentioned by Third kanina, Ma’am has the results of the survey carried out through text. Given that, Mario is going to compile all the results and we’re going to discuss it sa GA next week. Please prepare kasi the GA next week might extend. We’ll have 1 hour for it give and take. Any updates you guys might have will happen after the session. Mario will be posting the results of the survey sa group. We expect everyone to read through it and understand what’s there. Does anyone have any questions?

Partnership Proposals
Jaro: If you’ve read my updates last week, hinold muna natin yung pagtanggap ng partnerships to ensure that we could comply to the requirements of our existing partnerships. Na-execute naman natin ‘yong mga partnerships natin nang maayos. Currently, we have 6 active partnerships. They’ve started pouring in after the typhoon and understandable naman kasi a lot of initiatives are geared towards helping the victims. But then my issue lang, for transparency, hindi tayo makapag-engage to that because madalas urgent kasi siya and ‘yong teammates ko may mga internet difficulties kaya mahirap talaga since sila rin naman ‘yong mage-execute ng mga responsibilities.

So, update lang for e-store. We’ve had 6 orders lang. We’re going to bump the post. We wanted to post this week but then sabi ko na ‘wag muna para we won’t compete with the posts of other orgs regarding their donation drives for the victims of the typhoons.

Sa donation drive naman, as I’ve mentioned last week, bumabagal ‘yong mga donations natin, which is understandable kasi people are more inclined towards helping those na nasalanta ng mga bagyo. We will also bump this by posting next week (again, to give way for the typhoon-related donation drives).

For our bazaar naman, just so you know, 14-21 businesses ‘yong projected number of businesses na makakalahok sa ating online bazaar. We have packages ranging from 500 pesos to 750 pesos for them, and our target profit is 7-10k which is not bad for a 2-week initiative, which is not bad for a 2 week initiative. We’re going to try our best to get more concessionaires. Mahirap rin kasi businesses are struggling because of the pandemic and because of the recent typhoons pa. What’s going to happen is that these businesses wil be having a pub for them per day. So most likely, there will be two to three pubs per day. I will be coordinating with M&P shortly for that. Our dates for the bazaar is Dec 7-18. Those are the dates kasi the bazaar will be a Christmas Bazaar.

Tito Bobby is inviting us this Friday for an UPSEAA webinar. Attendance will count as attendance for LCC GAs. Tita Rose also sent an email sa SESC mail for a webinar on Ayala-UPSE webinar on national use plan. I will send the details again sa groupchat later. I will remind you sa next GAs.

We have 5 pending partnership proposals. Again, we can only accept a maximum of 4.

Workbean’s Career Fiesta. Part of the partnership is sending 5 attendees to the event, December 3-4, 10AM to 6 PM. Please vote on the chat if g or pass. Pass po tayo dito.

AssiSTAT: A Donation Drive. Pwedeng monetary, and if we donate, we don’t have to fulfill all the other partnership responsibilities. Mind you, I was instructed by the Chairperson na maging conscious sa pag-disburse ng pera and priority natin if ever na maglalabas tayo ng pera, mga donation drives.

Mario: Ilang donation drives pa ‘yong pending sa atin?

Jaro: Ito lang.

Shin: Motion to extend by 5 minutes.

Jaro: I second the motion.

Okay g po tayo sa minor, magde-deposit ako ASAP.

EARTH-UST. It’s a month long initiative. This is for environmental consciousness. Keep in mind na lang ‘yong mga requirements for each package, especially ‘yong twitter follows. Okay done po tayo dito, G Bronze.

Pay it Forward Movement. Para ito sa mga affected na students nila sa College of Political Science and Public Administration of PUP Sta. Mesa. This initiative is established to ensure that no student is left behind. Okay, g po tayo sa bronze.

Mario: Extend by 5 mins.

Jaro: Second.

ALSA. Hulagway is asking us to become their Social Media Partner. This is a project initiatied by UP Freshmen to advance the interest of indigenous people. G Major.

Other Matters
Third: Hi, guys! I’ll be having another initiative wherein ico-collate ng core ko ‘yong mga naging initiatives and achievements niyo for the first sem for transparency. This is going to be posted on the Facebook page. ‘Wag kayo amgulat if ia-approach kayo ng mga core members ko. Thank you!
